  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Was wired mode working well?

Pretty well, there seemed to be a few bugs in it where it would lose the connection with the motor, or after calibrating it, it wouldn't work. It was FAR more reliable than the wireless though. We'll see what happens when I get it back.

Some people seem to have missed it, but the last update from Curt was on monday, 5/4. They are in the process of building 30 more units.

Your right, I missed the 5/4 update. I saw this one:

Sorry guys, I got side tracked. We've been dealing with the Origo cable issue and building up 30 more units to ship out. I'll update as soon as I get that off my plate later today.

I was expecting more that day. Did I miss something else?

Abel is selling the new system in a two-channel (focus & iris) configuration for under US$16K, complete with cables for the RED. A third channel for zoom is available as an option. These are the strongest motors in the industry bar non and the system is incredibly intuitive to use (I trained on it in about 3 minutes).

And yes, Arri uses genuine Lemo connectors. ;-)

Hi Mitch

Can we start stop the Red with this new Arri unit? (how about cmotion style last clip play?)

Thanks and regards

Ok, I guess an update is in order before I get too many people with pitch forks and torches at my front door. We shipped 15 more units today (Imperos and Inclinos) and a bunch of Imperos to Erik yesterday. t looks like we are on track to do steady shipments every couple days and hopefully getting the back orders fulfilled in short order - my goal is the end of the month but we'll see how things go when we keep pushing the envelope on the production. We have 5 people working on this full time now so things should turn around. We had a busy few days dealing with the Origo stuff so getting these out today was a nice end to one hell of a week.

Here are some good points over the past few weeks. We have modified all the plastics and have them setup with the external antennas (which was an expensive hit to our budget). The range is amazing - over 125ft typically with up to 300 ft when using a 1/2 wave antenna. Indoors isn't half bad either, around 60 -80 ft with interference etc. We have got a lot of the bug fixes in place - namely motors randomly going zombie and knob position tracking errors. Both were easy fixes once I found the bug but finding them took awhile. Regardless the units are functioning nicely and we will continue to add feature over the coming weeks.

On the motor front, we found that out of 250 rotors we only had 50 good ones. We used those for the first production run and the shipments we sent out today. I had a shop get started on new precision rotors that will really make assembly and operation go much better. I had a few protos made from these guys and they make a huge difference in the noise level. We are slated to get 200 on Tuesday and that will coincide with running out of the ones we have in stock at the moment.

Firmware updates are easy from an engineers point of view, but I'm cleaning up my code for the windows app to upgrade motors/controllers in the field. A temporary solution will be to use Eriks app (thanks for helping out on that Erik). It should allow you guys to upgrade on both windows and Mac if I'm not mistaken.

Lastly we will be sending out emails to current owners to have their units shipped back to VF for the antenna upgrade. We will also take that opportunity to take a look at the cables and verify that none of them fall into the "OMG they're not Lemo" category. We will replace anything that looks suspect.

This weekend is going to be me making numerous electrical testing stands and nailing down mfg. scripts to speed up the programming and testing of the units before they leave. Its amazing how much time that sucks up not having it automated.

Hope that helps, once again I'm sorry for the delays and time between updates. If you guys can bare with us we hope to get started on some new things that I think you will really get a kick out of.

Interesting. Given the circumstances, I hope I am not hijacking the thread if I ask for features and configuration of the ARRI unit. Would this setup give me DOF display? How does it compare to VFS?

Thanks for the update dood... Communication is key and we appreciate it very much! Looking forward to using this sucker.

Have I Underestimated Curt.... Yes I did...
he is a Great guy...
stick together guys (it coming soon) or Stay Out of League Till you Joins back to vfs

Thanks for the update Curt, great news. You say 15 more units, you had shipped out 15 earlier, mostly local you said ? So probably not the 1st 15 orders. I can understand that, easier for feedback, replacement, update, etc ; but where does that leave us in the order numbers ?

Of course, as these units start shipping, early orders like myself are getting excited. If you're going to ship out every couple of days, I should be getting mine in a matter of days then.

Wouhou !!!

Cheers,
Damien

I was told that the WCU-3 can't save lens data that you manually may want to program into it. Being RED I don't have LDS, so I went with WRC-2 + all the goodies with it, since that should be programmable? Would you say this is the case or could I have gone with the WCU-3?

Curt, thanks for the overdue update! Way to go!

Now I can sit tight again - until the next update.

Just put the upgraded Impero through it's paces
The 1/4, 1/2 wave antennas solved all connectivity issues
Beautiful solution Curt. The Inclino motors with the upgraded
firmware are showing no signs of the callibration bugs.
This is fantastic. And the pelican case is the finishing touch.
Now it's time to get the microforce style zoom control up and
Shipping No rest at Viewfactor. For any of you that have been
on the fence hang in there it is SO worth the wait.

So I hate to ask this, but about 6 months ago you had told me that the Pro version of the Inclino was about 6 months away and that you had hoped to debut it at NAB (2009). I know that you haven't even gotten the initial orders filled yet, but what are your plans for the Pro controller?

Looking forward to this. Thanks
