  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

so basically we will get all the cables in the video plus the dtap and antenna, plus software upgrades...

congrats...hope to have it in may

Hey Matthew-
Do you mean there will be a different item for the zoom or this something I haven't heard of?

Curt has said that they will be building a zoom controller that is in the style of the microforce zoom control. It will still use the same motor though.

Although, to be honest, the friction on the Imperio is just "thick" enough that if you wanted to do a small zoom move, you could use it right now to do it. Just move the motor to the zoom function on your lens.

Matthew

I will receive a Dtap cable by tomorrow.

Thanks Curt, Will and Sean.

Just received our Impero/ 2 of three inclinos. Everything looks fantasic and fired up with VF Dtap cable. We will do some extensive testing tomorrow and i will report back if either one of our cameras will work with RED cable
VF will get us the third motor and the Pelican(waiting on lasercut foam) the week of 4/6/09
All in all we are very pleased. The Impero is a little funny to hold and def. needs a lanyard. Another thought is maybe someone can come up with quickkeys to mount the Inclino ( like monstercine made- unless they make a smaller one i am not aware of)
well its been a lng haul for everyone and i think you will all be very happy with the wait. Thanks VF, Thanks

does anybody know what the serial communications protocol used on these is?

wired communications that is...

curt....
Thank you very much...!
I had the imperio and 3 motors working for hours yesterday. I was powering through the d-tap and all worked fine....i did a line of site test and i reckon i got about 50-60ft without the antenna....mate i'm very happy....well done...it was worth the wait....
Cheers
Paul

Just a quick note that I had a DTAP cable made just now and used it to test everything was working great! :-) Now I just look forward to get the rest of the package...

All very good to know.

Now, is VF going to supply a DTAP cable for people that did not order it as it was indicated it could run through the GPI tap on the RED?...And not charge?

I think this would be fairly justified.

But it is great to here they are running well and they are finally getting out there. I havn't read any comments from anyone in regards to noise from the motor, i guess by the silence it is not an issue. Let's hope the remaining part doesn't get f....ed up during production.

Nice one VF:beer:

For me the motor noise is not a problem at all. A friend of mine has both a Preston and a Bartech and I'll see if I can get convince him to do a comparison and will record audio and make a speed test.

That would be REALLY useful in establishing the Viewfactor as a professional alternative to Preston, Bartech etc! Even better if you can compare loudness in an audio application or with a sound pressure meter and quantify the loudness differences in dB. But if not, a subjective test will still be useful.

That was exactly what I was planning on doing :-)

Here's the latest manual... still a work in progress but we're getting there.

The plastics guy pushed out again... Heres the email verbatim:
"We have the tool for part 63 done. The tool for 62 and 64 only has ejector pin work left. I'll keep you posted as to when we will have parts for you."
I take that to mean we are a day or two out.. I'll keep you guys posted.

Wow, I haven't stopped into this thread for a few days... I was always under the impression that that DTap cable was needed. Looks like that is the case, so I'm not sure about the confusion here. But it would be nice to see some clarification from ViewFactor. If the DTap cable is necessary, I wonder why they sent out kits without it? Then again, if firmware can fix it and eliminate the need for the DTap cable, that's great too! I'm all for less cables hanging off my camera all the time.

The kit looks good in that video. I can't wait to get mine, with the proper antenna installed, that is... Hopefully by the end of the month. I have a job the second week of May that could really use this. And I'd hate having to rent a BarTech ...again.
Here's the issue... The Red one camera can supposedly supply about 1.5 amps but we were feeling a little reluctant to use that for powering the motors as we had to reduce the maximum acceleration and speed to a point where its very sluggish. I will go ahead and modify the firmware to allow the motors to run off the aux connector and enable high speed only when running a DTAP.

Does anybody know how to attach the controller to a Mantis rig?

Cheers,
Jochen
Nothing for that yet but we're working on it..

Thanks for the update. Looks like things are coming together.

I haven't received any emails or notifications. How can we see where we are in the initial 30 shipments and what kind of time frame we are looking at? I've sent a few emails simply to make sure the correct email address is on file, but haven't heard back. Is it better to verify some of this on the phone?

Thanks. Seeing the manual and hearing about the early units is a huge confidence booster. Looking foward to receiving mine an a week or two (crossing fingers).
