  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi Curt /John,

How’s things going ? Any news on what is going on with the Impero ?

How is the blue tooth working out ?

Is the external antenna working?

What sort of range are you getting ?

Any chance of seeing an updated manual so we can work out how to operate the Imperos before we get them?

Thanks for all you hard work getting everything right !

Cheers,
Tim.

What I'd like to know is, is the antenna issue the *last* issue that needs to be resolved before the units trek out the door? If not, what will we be looking at once the antenna's are fitted.. is everything else tested?..

Cheers!

i'm asking very much the same thing..can we hope that this will be the last issue, curt ?

The only way to know if something is the last issue is to install and test it. One fix can often (usually) create new problems. That's been one of the biggest issues with this development process. Theory and reality rarely meet.

I am currently workinig on a video that explains Impero operation for the Birger Mount.

Hope to have it in one week

jay,
maybe i've missed one important piece in this >1200 thread puzzle.
looks like the combination of VFS-birger mount is becoming what everybody's waiting for.
recently i've lost a little bit of faith in keeping an eye on Soon-To-Be-Released-Cool-Stuff (STBRCS), so i actually wasn't considering to buy any birger mount.
recently we've been waiting for the blue tooth module to be developed, and i still cannot imagine what exactly is this module for.
my thought is, probably, that before starting development of the connection with birger mount, it would have been nice to have a finished FF system that works remotely controlled, which is what i paid for.
or
i am the only one not interested in the birger mount at the moment so this is really a stupid thought.

in any case,
i am really waiting for your video.
having VFS, having the birger mount ( both of these factor are already a huge achievement..) the system really should be beautiful....

NAB exhibitors, STBRCS vendors, please notice:
this year i will come to NAB with my credit card fully loaded.
i will give you money, you give me your cool stuff right away. no pre orders...

I'm with you Alex. There's always a way to make a device "better." Save the Birger mount thingy for versiion2. Just my 2cents.

Same here.

What I think you guys are missing regarding the bluetooth is that it wasn't until Curt had beta units of the zigbee wireless version of the controller out there that he found problems with using zigbee. It wouldn't transfer data fast enough and focusing wasn't smooth enough if I recall correctly.

He had to abandon all his zigbee work and move on to another solution.

It turns out that the Birger guys already had a bluetooth receiver in their unit. I don't think it was any skin off Curt's back (or ours) to get both devices communicating the same way at the same time. It was always in his plan to be able to control both inclinos and the Birger mount.

Curt aquired a couple hundred new Birger customers as a result of his deal to provide knobs for it. At this point they are important customers too.

(btw, I'm #2 on the order list for impero/inclino and I really could us it this Saturday so I'm just as antsy as everyone else)

oh,
i'm not that technical. i do not really know what a zigbee is, actually.
i'm happy that vfs got hundreds more clients with birger, but all this is still on a virtual world. is birger shipping already?

the hope is that VFS impero will be such a great tool, we'll forget all this in a second, once we have it in our hands.
nevertheless, at the moment i have no plans to be a faithful VFS customer in the future.

At the advanced age of 52, I'm more worried that I will have forgotten all about it by the time it arrives.

"View Factor Studios? What the heck is this?"

:-)

LOL:):):)
i've included on my last will a note of a possible shipping of curious stuff to my person.
Easier to do than to explain what exactly a remote follow focus is to my children...
just in case...

You guys are really cracking me up! Great work!

Sort of like that terrific, subtle line in the Birger thread when someone said that they had heard the Birger was shipping soon and this wonderful wit replied: "You must be new around here."

These are great. . . a little levity to soothe the pain and suffering.

just trying to imagine the scene...
my nephew, all dressed up in black, opening the box and looking at those strange knobs...
by that time the "thing", with such a scary name, IMPEROO OO O,might have a dozen antennas, a handful of bluetooth ports, a full size keyboard loaded of coloured buttons.
maybe an incorporated MP3 player and a coffee machine..

hey guys,
just for the few ones who are not already jumping from this thread to the birger lens thread.
i was just curious, so i went there, just to see...
guess what?
birger is Not shipping!!!
they are talking about antennas and other stuff still to be tested.....

ops...:umm:

they got up to 5800something posts..

still can't figure out if it's a good or a bad thing...

good for a laugh anyway...:)

goodnight everyone!

True, but I fugured Curt has probably at least tested the new antenna on a prototype before going into production on the antenna mounts for the rest of the units, so there may be a chance that he has a good idea..

Or maybe not..

...Note to self: Send Stephen an email next week saying that some company named ViewFactor accidently shipped a package of mine to his address. Would really appreciate it if he could forward said package to me.

Forget it, Jeff. . . no one would believe you that said package had actually been shipped!

:-)
