  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

i did cancel two days ago...

no answer, no confirmation from Curt.

weird.

I sent him an email a few days ago but it says they will respond within 5 days.....that's speedy. I don't know what in the hell I would do if I didn't check my email for 5 days....lol....it would take forever.

It's very sad that Viewfactor doesn't realize what they are destroying by not responding to this board. The last bit of goodwill and trust will be abandoned...

:frown2:

I'm still a believer - but not for long any more...

:(

Deposits...

Deposits...

Hi everyone... on the getting your deposit back deal, I want ya'll to know that I had no problems getting my deposit back (just to clarify the deposit was for the Mirus-- I was really sad to do so but I will be going in another direction).

I was able to call Curt, speak briefly so as to not waste his time, give him my new address and I received a check covering the full deposit within 4 days.

I am not saying this to contradict anyone or provide excuses for anyone... I just want to relay my first hand experience.

I will jump back into the VFS fray down the road when things are firm. Until then I will be renting...

My best wishes to all on both sides of this and I hope we all get what we need in the end.

I understand that Kaya. Even more reason to be frustrated... my point is money is money and I got mine back promptly. Given the fact that they are now back from NAB, have you tried calling them (I know this is not a great option for you with the massive time difference and long distance)?

i dont want to rant, but hey, just writing 2 sentences would cost them 10 seconds of time.

something, ok we will do it.
hope we can serve you the next time

I agree with you 100% Kaya... I sent you a pm.

Andrew, did Curt happen to say anything about the Mirus?

Hi Curran,

I spoke to Curt back in the third week of January right after my big move to Chicago. I called first thing in the morning when their offices opened (PST).

Curt was very nice and apologetic concerning the Mirus... Now, due to the fact that VFS is a small shop, the Mirus development had understandably slowed down. So, for a while now, it has been all hands on deck to get things ironed out on the Inclinos/Controllers so they can plow forward to clear the backlog.

Even though I was a Mirus customer... this strategy made total sense. Get the motors out right the first time (you know what mean... the big waves of orders not the ripples with the antenna situation).

Now don't get me wrong, I would love to have the Mirus now... but what I need right now is an Inclino with a VFS Super Grip so I do not have to go the way of the non-egonomic microforce. I would also love to see that rocker-type, hand grip w/ inclino that would mount to either 19mm or 15mm studio standard iris rods that would work well some 35mm zooms, S16mm zooms and some Nikon zooms (now let's not forget the birger as well!). This was brought up by myself, Steve Gbiby and Hans von Sonntag back in 2006 and many times since... in addition many, many others have asked for the same but have not followed Red user from the earliest of days.

I honestly think once Curt nails this motor/controller system down that we will see a lot of great products from VFS that we will find hard to live without... So, I understand the frustration, but I believe Curt will prevail for all of our benefit.

I wish everyone a great shooting weekend...

Cheers,

Andrew

ps- Curran, I hope this helped... if not pm me anytime or hit my e-mail: sektor26@gmail.com

results so far.....

results so far.....

I've had an early version of the VFF system for 3 weeks now and yes it has its issues, but in general the system works well. Obviously range is limited without the ext aerial, and there are connection issues, but i am confident that Curt will sort this all out.......
One little side issue....I was using the system on a shoot with the MK V steadicam and AR revolution rig, and the biggest issue was all the VF cables have straight lemo connectors, and the straight connectors would not allow the AR rig to rotate, as they protrude so far from the motor body that they hit the support rods. We tried a lot of different motor positions, and nothing worked. Eventually we came up with a system of rods that got us around the issue, but it added extra weight.
I really think that all the lemo cables for the VFF system should have one right angle connector. Looking at the receiver module and the motors you could easily use right angle or straight at either end......just a thought
(pics below are of the problem, forgot to take pic of solution......:embarassed:)

Quick question for you guys on this thread. I figure since you are all waiting (like me) for the Impero for your Birger mount, maybe I can get a bit of advice for a start/stop.

I am finally putting my shoulder rig together. Cannot afford third party rig right now etc. Will be making my own shoulder pad to quickconnect to the quick release plate for my Oconnor 2060HD and using carbon fiber rods and red handles. That way I can pull the RED off of the 2060 and slap the shoulder pad on and run.

Question is this: for remote start/stop, is the Origo the right way to go for this setup?

Looks like it is shipping immediately and not a bad price.

Anyone got a comment?

Thanks!

Alan

Absolutely a 90 degrees connector option is a must. In every other system I work with there are connectors like that.

Just to be clear: You know that once you get your Impero it has a Start/Stop built into it, right? I was about to buy one, but then I saw that I was getting an integrated one in the form of Impero--so I held off. I couldn't tell by your post if you know and are looking anyway or you didn't realize.

Figured it was better to be clear!

Origo is great and includes battery charge indication, but you can always make up your own Stop/Start switch if you feel confident about reading a pin-out diagram and solder a switch and cable to a Lemo connector.

Eric, Thanks for the info. I thought the impreo might have that option. Not sure how handy that will be for handheld as far as easily triggering. How would you mount the impero for handheld to use that feature? Have you thought about that for single operator handeld, in other words. Could it be done?

Thom, yes, I actually could do the wire up but my time available is such that I have to decide what to design and build myself and what to just get off the shelf. Having soldered up my own HAM radio rig (long ago), I think I could do the work but have never done a lemo connector and just do not have the time to gather and assemble something like that. I am spending my time on designing a shoulder pad that will connect to my quickplate for quick tri-pod to shoulder change. I model mechanical designs in 3D with Autodesk Inventor and can print ABS plastic parts to check how things will work before I go to final. I have the guys at the college machine shop who can work from the 3D plans to make the parts once I get that fit done.

Thanks for your response. I really appreciate everyone on this forum! Great resource and I learn all the time from just reading the threads.

ummmmm....Curt....when you do eventually get around to letting us know what is happening there at VF etc. Would you mind commenting on this thread that has just been posted by the lads at RED.

If you end up with a faulty cable are you going to replace these at no cost to us Origo owners? And costs for camera repairs because of the faulty product? Where does this responsibility lie?

I have used mine many times and it hasn't damaged my RED but two cameras a week back to RED for this kinda of cost in repair aint good. What is your position on this please?

I must say, and this is not having a go, but they also mention you are aware of this fault and have been for quite some time. Would you think it not prudent to inform customers there is a major potential problem with the origo connectors (lemo)?
