  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shipped a few more units yesterday. The Drive train is working well and I am very happy with the noise levels and speed. We are going to be shipping several more units today. We'll get the volumes up to 10-20/day soon.

Sounds good, so that means I should have mine soon :-)

Looking forward to it...

Cheers,
Damien

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just got my Digital Follow Focus from Viewfactor about half an hour ago. I put everything together and it seems to work nicely. I'm very pleased with the way Viewfactor solved the range issues by adding the external antenna. Also - the new cycloid motor design seems to work very well. The motor does seem to have a bit of a funky feel to it (I'll be more precise after having done tests), but I have to say I'm VERY impressed with the speed. It's as fast as the CLM-3s from Arri - and those are some of the fastest motors I've seen. Sound is not too bad either. To my ear it seems they're a little more noisy than the CLM-3, but I'll do more tests as soon as possible. Now - there seems to be a few minor kinks in the system that I'll discuss later on, but I'm sure Curt can squash those by doing a software update, but overall I'm very pleased with this system! :-)

Do you guys know how to differentiate an 4pin Origo cable from a 4pin Birger cable?
We got a package with everything together and we need to sort it out.

Thanks,

Arnaud

Well, you have the pinouts from Birger two pages pack. Run a multimeter across the pins of the cables and see which cable is pin to pin and which one swaps 2&3.

Exact same story for me, too, Larry. I really like the trigger and the visible battery indicator, but beeping during takes is obviously unacceptable. If there's a way to kill the beeper, I'd be very happy.

Curt?

Stephen

The first firmware release will be in a couple weeks. We are taking care of a bunch of bugs. There will be a button combo to shut off beeps.

Origo cables are ok with the Impero and Inclino but not the Birger. Erik uses a cross-over design which flips pins 3 and 4.

I will make sure I label them correctly, but if the impero was connected by mistake to the Birger mount via an origo cable, what's the worst thing it can happend?. Impero not working properly, or some parts can fry?.

Thank you.

Thanks for that video Tony. Have you tried the "Two position memory for automatic rack focus with custom speed/easing" feature yet?

Also, way way back in this thread, someone stated that the user could write scripts for this; which I assumed meant that I could write one for, oh let's say 3 focus points rather than the two positions that are pre-programmed. Was that person off his rocker or is this a feature that is available (and Curt has yet to really market that)?

Thanks

I haven't tried any of the more "advanced" features yet as I believe they are still to be implemented in the software of the unit.

Thank you Tony for the video.
Are this all the parts you got based on the original order, or did you have to add something? (I remember the D-Tap cable was in discussion).

No problem, Marc. I know people have been anxious to see the stuff work (myself including) so it's nice to be able to show people that it's there and real.

I originally ordered the RED power cable but decided to go with the DTAP cable instead since the aux ports on the RED is too unreliable to power something that need as much power as a wireless follow focus system uses. Also - with the DTAP cable I have a system that is compatible with other cameras = more versatility. I have another couple of motors on order that I will get down the line as Viewfactor gets caught up with orders (they weren't ordered with the initial order).

Best,

Tony
