Never seen the show, but i'm going to watch this just to see how the 2+mil will be spent.

They're going to raise a lot more than $2 million. Expect many more studio projects like this in the future...

Yes - probably enough to make a series.

Sadly, I can now see the gate opening for crowd funded studio projects... and a way for the studios to keep their IP under control and charge the fans for production... and then sell the finished product back to the same fans.

A studio's dream really.

On the plus side, it might offer hope to series/franchises or projects that might otherwise get canned.

At first glance the rewards for the Veronica Mars campaign seem pretty good. When I did my campaign Whoopi Goldberg was doing one as well and at first she was not offering a copy of the movie at all. After a large number of complaints she relented and offered a DVD copy. Whoopi's campaign was not run very well. I got 115 more backers than her, but she did raise more money ($20k from private dinners, parties and screenings with her). The Veronica Mars campaign is well thought out. There is a big potential for celeb projects to blow up and lead to bad PR. Bjork canceled her Kickstarter...

One thing the Veronica Mars campaign needs to do is open up the campaign to international donors. Seems all their rewards are for US citizens only. Probably Warner is worried about possibly damaging foreign sales deals, but it's still kind of lame.

I like that celebs and studios are getting into this. It grows the pie for the rest of us...

Good on them. Especially for a property like Veronica Mars. Certainly something the show's fans can get behind.

We are going to get interesting territory with crowd funding. This is a property that has some star power and a fan base behind it. With the right names attached, who knows what can be made? Something to certainly consider with pilot season approaching.

I thought right away 'Firefly is coming back' but I don't know if JW actually wants to do it.
Ha ha, yeah. In some BTS stuff I watched he seemed pretty confident that it would never be resurrected. Plus I suspect Nathan Fillion would probably be busy with Castle. No doubt there would be enough fans to bring it back if there was a way.

Hard to believe. I watched it on and off throughout the day, toggling back and forth between the pope coverage!

Kickstarter is only 3 years old. This could either bring back a lot of fan favorites - or even migrate them to new media, which could get interesting.

It's a breakthrough, that is for certain.

I do wonder what the SEC is gonna have to say about it.

The $10 incentive for the screenplay is cool. I'm not really into promo t-shirts and $35 for a digital is pretty steep. Some pretty passionate fans willing to throw down $6500 to name a character.

I'm not a Veronica Mars fan, but if a Veronica Mars movie was snubbed by the studios but the fans wanted it - and if it can be produced this way as an indi film - then that's rad, power to the people. I'm not down with Kickstarter becoming an avenue for studio films though, that's whack.
