Any thoughts on the pros and cons to using a Zacuto EVF Flip-Up Electronic View Finder? I realize that the Bomb is likely way better but it also costs a lot more. Since I have the DSLR Z-Finder I was thinking their EVF might do the trick?

Ive been looking at that as well, but there is something about the design I don't like that much.

I got some hands-on time with the EVF when I was at zacuto last week. Very well built, nice functions, and looks great. It has a zoom-in focus assist and had no problems hitting a mark. I'll be buying one for my scarlet for sure. Barring any weirdness I don't know about (like lack of simultaneous LCD and hdmi output).

I have all three, the Zacuto, Bomb and original EVF. All great for their own reasons. The Zacuto works great and is a no-brainer if you need to save money. The original EVF is absolutely bullet proof, and the Bomb is small, light, doesn't require HDMI or it's own power, and is the best thing if you need a small form factor.

In the end I'll probably use the Bomb on my Epic, the Zacuto on my Scarlet and have already sold the original EVF, just waiting for it to be picked up!

I really want to get their EVF (since I already own a Z-Finder), but HDMI is holding me back. I have a feeling that they will announce an SDI Version II before NAB 2012

Hard to believe they'd go the SDI route considering their principal market is HDSLR support.

What's so bad about HDMI? Worried about it popping out?

Well, yes — popping out, contacts themselves are easy to break, I've had enough bad experience working with HDMI on DSLRs. It is not really a professional connector standard like lemo or sdi

The landscape has changed considerably, since the first EVF was released — a lot of people will invest in Scarlet and C300 and they just can't ignore that. People investing 20+K into these systems want to get something more reliable than a consumer standard connection, IMO.

Ah. i've had less bad luck with them I guess. I haven't had any of the contacts break on me yet. They do pop out and I wish the developed a screw locking mechanism of some sort. I gaff tape things when I think it will get hairy. I could see a rod clamp or something being handy in those situations as well.

I believe Shane Hurlburt//Letus had a HDMI clamp going with their cages that he said was available for purchase.

Also wondering how good/easy focusing is via the 5" touch?

Best

A good solution to help with multiple outputs needed, is using this little device
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...OR_XDI_SL_Battery_Powered_3G_SDI_to_HDMI.html
it converts HDSDI to HDMI and vice versa in one box. You can input an HDMI or HDSDI signal and it will give you 2 HDSDI and 1 HDMI out.
with this you can add an HDMI EVF, with and HDSDI on board and an HDSDI client monitor for example. All out of 1 output.
one thing to note for those HDMI averse is that Cineroid has HDSDI models as well.

I recently compared the Zacuto EVF with the SmallHD DP4-EVF (with the new eye cup design) and in my opinion the SmallHD DP4-EVF will be on my Scarlet-X.
