In case you missed it, Jarred dropped this on his FB page last night. ( https://www.facebook.com/jarred.land )

In RED store 10/27, sub $320. Woo Hoo !

Question is the faster than a Esata connection to the old mag readers?

Im thinking it´s not really possible to empty faster than the estate connector on the mag, no?

AFAIK, they are microSATA drives in a shell, but I haven't poked the latest ones.

Depends what you connect the other end on the eStata cable into. Most interface boards NEVER get to the limit speed of the connector type. There's more theoretic speed than real world speed most of time - AND - beware MANY of the various adapter cables and conversion hubs will take some of your speed away.

USB C (3.1) is the future.

Embrace it.

So how fast do you empty a 512Gb card? I think it takes me about 40 minutes with E-sata trough a Thunderbolt laice thingy. But yes, nice to ditch all those little boxes and cables I want a red mini mag slot on my macbook :)

Dudes.... What about a Minimag RocketReader?-)

It takes me about 37-43 minutes to offload a full RED 1TB Mini-Mag via a "pure" USB 3.0 connection to a rather fast disk. It hovers around 375-380MB/s.

USB 3.1 is going to change the download game a bit as it doesn't saturate at the maximum read speeds of the Mini-Mag media. I'm thinking above 400MB/s transfers, perhaps more. This reader will save on offload time for sure.

USB 3.1, specifically Type-C connections, and Thunderbolt 3 will be playing a big role in the future of our post hardware solutions in my opinion. A very big role. Just need a lot more hardware supporting it and hopefully more than one port on mobos for these. As always, it's been a slow role out as things tighten up.
