Hi guys,

My scarlet was working fine earlier today and was properly shut down during lunch break. After lunch when we attempted to boot up the camera, it refused to respond! When I press the pwr button, it went from red to amber. Usually the fan would start up and boot up procedure continues BUT this time, the fan did not respond (after the led light turned amber) and then the led turns back to red. It's as if the boot up procedure was terminated when the camera detected that the fan wasn't working. I can't be sure but it sure seems like that.

The battery that we used were working fine and we were in an air conditioned room. We tried swapping batteries and even battery plates but to no avail. We also attempted to force upgrade to another firmware but it did not go far enough into the boot up procedure for the camera to read the ssd!

So does anyone had this experience before? I m looking to use this camera for a project next week so any help from you would be greatly appreciated!

Please help!

Derrick:

When upgrading to another firmware, did you remove the DSMC side handle and LCD? That happened to me once with similar symptoms that you are having. As always, open a trouble ticket with RED support if nothing else works. Good luck.

Hi Marcos,

Thanks for your response! well, i'm actually still on v3.0.0 which i updated back in April. It's been working from then till now. I hadn't had any side handle and if i remembered correctly, I did remove the LCD.

Guess i'll open a ticket and see what happens.

Cheers,
Derrick

Hi Derrick,

First thing to do is to unplug all your cables. Battery, LCD, etc... Make sure everything is clean and then plug them back in securely. I find most times people have any issue is due to cables just not being plugged in.

If after this your camera isn't booting I would recommend powering it up using the A/C adapter and not the battery. Or if you have a Side Handle attempt to power it up only using a RedVolt and not a V-Mount or AB battery.

Another thing to attempt is to boot the camera without any SSD media plugged in.

Make sure the fans are spinning normally and nothing is blocking their operation.

Give that a try and see where things go from there.

Thanks guys for your help...

I was using a swit battery when it happened. But we did swap several batteries of the same make with similar results. Back at home I did try another 3rd party battery which also fails to boot up the camera. Likewise when I tried using AC power. (Didn't try with redvolts as I don't own a side handle) And all these were done without a single accessory nor SSD attached. The fan just didn't start up long enough for the camera to advance in the boot-up sequence! I did noticed that the fan did in fact spin a couple of rounds upon pressing of the power button but it stopped after about 1 second and the camera went back to standby mode (ie pwr led shows red light)

I removed the fan cover below the lens mount and did a visual inspection to make sure nothing is blocking the blades from rotating smoothly.
