hi, ... Can i upgrade from 1.6.42 to 1.7.10 or 2.02 without remote (i don't receive yet) and only on redbrick (full charge) NO DC (i only have 2B to 1B cable, work well). ? With NO RISK ?

THANKS

What would the risk be? Many of us have done this with no RedMote and no problems.

I did the 1.7.10 update with no redmote, but I had power plugged in. There's another thread with someone asking about using redbrick during update as well, might should check that out.

No problem upgrading with no redmote.

AC is strongly recommended but if you are in a pinch or AC is not stable, then use battery.
Risk is up to you.

DEANAN,

I always thought that AC was the unstable factor. With a fully charged battery you know that there will be no power spikes from the utility lines and no chance of a brown out. I understand that this strategy requires making absolutely sure you have a fully charged battery but one can surely be more confident of meeting that requirement than being certain that the AC source will not spike or interrupt during upgrade. If my logic here is sound why are you implying a greater risk upgrading with battery than with AC?

Where do you download 2.02? I can't find it on the Red site.

1.7 is the new beta, 2.02 is for the redmote.

1.7.10 is the latest beta, 2.02 is a camera firmware alpha build with playback enabled (and new shooting formats) and will not be published on red.com as is. Find it in Recon / Playback thread started by Jarred...

and remember it is an early alpha version to be used with caution (might not be ready for production use)

EPIC Firmware Upgrades com separately from Redmote Upgrade, even so you'll download them in the same time, they come in two different Folders.

To further answer your question, not only its okay for you to do any EPIC Firmware upgrades as you need to without the Redmote... BUT... You in fact should always have the Redmote... REMOVED
form the camera, as well as the Side Handle Grip, camera needs only POWER and an LCD or EVF to Format the SSD first, then to Upgrade.

So if you don't use AC, but Battery power, then it should NOT be via the Redvolt off the Side Handle Grip, as again, this too needs to be off the camera main body when performing a fFirmware upgrade,
but off a V-Lock battery, or when shipped the Battery Module.

Finally... REDMOTE Firmware Upgrades, are performed via a USB cable (that ships with) via your USB on your Computer.

As I understand it any module should be removed from the camera... So it will probably be the case also with the battery modules... RED recommands the AC but if your country is prone to blackout/instable voltages afully charged VLock powering via the lemo might be the best option.

If I follow your guidelines correctly (soon-to-be-Scarlet-owner-Q) then one HAS to have an SSD to make these upgrades??
I was contemplating starting out with something like a PIX Recorder to start, buy SSDs later. But if no camera upgrades can be performed without an SSD...???
Is there a definitive "how-to-upgrade software" somewhere that somebody can point me too?

You need an SSD to perform a firmware upgrade on the camera.

For current upgrade instructions refer to the release history of the current Epic firmware download page (https://www.red.com/support/epic/downloads)
