  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tuesday May 3rd...

Jim, Jarred and the Red gang thank you for hosting an awesome event!

Jim was very informative and I love your 40 screen!

It was also great to see and meet so many RedUsers and forum folk.

Prost,
Rich

+1 for this too.

Had a great time hanging with everyone and seeing some great footy!

Today was Epic, I came with my daughter she is studying Media Production in her school, after the 700 reel was finish I turned and asked her, What do you think? and she said to me "Wow, so much detail!"

Thank you Jim, it was spectacular... =))

What a great and informative time. Thank you so much Red Team.

Was really an incredible and informative event. I'm so upset I had to leave during the Q &A. Thanks Jim and Red crew.

was this recorded...will it be on line...for all of us that were not able to attend?
:( for not being able to attend... :(

I just want to add that I was very happy that it didn't become a pissing match between the Red and other cameras. We all know who has the higher resolution, so why waste time proving what's already fact?

What was shown was a lot of BEAUTIFUL imagery by the Epic. Jim did a very long ? & A and deferred from time-to-time to other members of his team and Michael Cioni from Light Iron.

There was no rabid fanboyism, and there was no trying to kick the king off the hill. It was a respectful, professional, casual, enjoyable, informative gathering. Everyone who was there must have left very impressed with what Red has accomplished thus far and feeling pleased with the direction Red is headed.

Ok Jim, ill bite, how much is the 40 inch screen and projector? I assume they are future 4k monitors.

Is there anywhere i can read about the event?

Thanks again.

Just a guess, but I think the reference was to a 40 foot screen, not 40 inch.

So,when we will be able to see the RED EPIC 700 Reel online????? Really looking forward to it.......

Thank you for hosting this event. I really appreciate being able to see all the numbers and digits and pixels and color sciences we talk about every day up on a 40' screen and sit back and say.

That was really cool. This is why we do it, to make movies.

Thanks for having us, and for your hospitality. Truly enjoyed seeing the footage and meeting everyone.

If my memory serves, that Sony projector is somewhere in the $90-$120k range, don't remember exactly, but it's a pretty sure bet most people here would struggle to afford it.

Now, Jim could take that out of petty cash, but I have a feeling he still winced a little at writing such a big check to Sony.

I'm sure his new 4K projector cannot come fast enough for him ... I wonder how much it will be ...

I saw Tattoo at NAB so seeing it again yesterday on your MEGA-SCREEN was pretty darned cool. But what was really amazing was the 700 reel, huge, in 4k. I've been slowly making the psychic shift from preferring the organic grain of 35mm to to clean-pristine images coming from the best digital cinema cams. The 700 reel pushed me over the edge. Really. From the opening runway takeoff to closing fly-by the images at that huge size were stunning and immersive and cinematic. Not trying to kick off a pointless film vs. digital thing. Just saying, that those 5k images were great. I felt like I was diving into them. I want to make them. I don't want to wait for Epic-X. Jim-Jarred-Red do you hear me? Epic-M for me, NOW please!

I was entertained by the interplay between Jim and Jarred regarding talking about Epic-S pricing. Jim wanted to give a ball-park, Jarred was kind of implying "are you sure you really want to do that" with his body language. Jim backed off and said "give me a little time to think about it". Apparently, he's still thinking... :)

Thanks Jim and Red for hosting. It was worth the drive from Emeryville.

Hi Jim and Team,

Very impressive demo! We've done many RED finishes on theatrical trailers, but have never been able to see RED footage on such a large screen.

I completely agree that one should look to the future and not stick with what is "OK" or "works well enough". RED Epic is truly that. I felt similar to how I feel when I see IMAX footage, or really good 3D. It transports you in, you forget that you are watching something and it becomes much more than just pixels and dynamic range. You can truly feel the power of the image.

Congrats again!

Talking vs seeing

Talking vs seeing

IMHO actually seeing the images created by a proper 4K ecosystem (from a lens capable of resolving that much detail to the projector/screen at RSH) it in all its glory can change your perception of whether high resolution matters.

I get that yesterday's event was by design limited in scope, but I would love to set up the obvious comparo with the likely suspects all aimed at the same scene and then displayed split screen on 40' of nowhere to hide. Just sayin'

Thanks for having us over - #19
