  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Truth or .... False Color

Seems you might have read my comment out of context. I am 1000% with Mark on this and have said so several times. David has also been very persuasive, articulate, and offers some great insight here. His analogy is not altogether inappropriate because Red is not selling iPhones (mass market) but a limited amount of professional level tools, targeted at a very clear and well delineated (niche) market - as you point out.

So, to be clear, there is a need for a powerful marketing effort but speaking to a "wide market" is a waste of resources. I believe the marketing from RED can assume a certain level of knowledge and professionalism. Speaking to the lowest common denominator in the video community is not going to optimize the resources of RED.
Sorry Terry, I was just adding on to your thoughts.

Well said, IMHO.

I don't know. I got called elitist and I'm going to tell anyone who calls me that to FUCK RIGHT OFF.

I'm pretty good and fair to people on this forum, have been for a long time and I don't resort to name calling.

But I will defend myself when I feel it's necessary.

Maybe diplomacy rather than war?

Called and answered.

Now that that is done... Does anyone know who is in charge of Reducation now? Mark, you would know.

When is the next NY Reducation and will it be net cast?

Let's all calm down. Josh was a little out of line - but I think he was really giving an opinion on your comments and not you personally.

It's Friday. Life is short. Let's all be friends.

Brian Henderson - and let me tell you - Reducation gets better and better and better ... it's much more focused and covers more advanced topics.

This next one at the end of the month in LA is going to be blockbuster. You should come - I'm pretty wound up :)

Fine. But I didn't call anyone anything. I told them where to go, which is different.

I'm out.

Hope not. You add to the discussions in numerous threads.

D. just meant he needed to get out for some fresh air and a glass of wine. He'll be back.

sounds good, seconded...

not sure much more can be said about exposing, it's really not complicated;
and red's fixing the exposure tool complications that were brought up in these builds.
if there's any confusion by all means clear it up... but i'm out for some beer and some snow (:

Heh, heh... that's what I'm afraid of. Fresh Italian air? Fine Italian wine?... soon REDuser becomes a distant memory.

(I'm speculating...I'm sure I've breathed Italian air as air is a mobile gas and I'm sure some mixture of it has passed through my lungs. Not sure I've ever drank any Italian wine but as long as they've been making it, they've probably got it right by now. '-)

Just FYI - as mentioned in this thread - the "false color" you get from EXPOSURE tool in RAW view is accurate - but when in RFL or RC3 it is current broken in the 5.0 firmware builds. So - right now - to work correctly - you need to switch over to RAW view when you want to use EXPOSURE meter to be accurate.
Any news on when a fix for this is due?
I only just upgraded from v4.0.12 - love the new menu system and onboard help, but this seems like a high price to pay for it :(

We should have a fix for it shortly. We are testing now.

I thought that RAW was a toggle that applied to all the options above (including Video and Exposure). My assumption was: if RAW is not selected, you see the tools as they present downstream from the ISO conversion, and if RAW is selected, you see the tools upstream of the ISO conversion. Best of both worlds, no?

Wow . . . that's some misguided elitist ass stuff there Mate! As a business person let me explain the error of your analogy:

Formula One has 22 drivers who are financed by Manufacturers who mass market easy to use products to common dull users like me
RED needs more than 22 amazing customers like you to survive

RED has to be easy to use and quickly understood to penetrate a wide market. Much, much more can be done in online education and ease of use. Those geeky folks on this forum maybe don't understand that most pro cameras are still rented by those who haven't spent 1000's hours camping on RU looking for clues or have attended an expensive RE session. They have limited time and finances so the product that fits their reality wins the sale.

RED needs to cast the widest possible mass marketing net since, in manufacturing, it is all about economies of scale. The first Dragon sensor cost them $2M, the second $1M and so on.

Red is not a mass market product. No one other than a tiny elite is going to spend more than $1500 for a camera, and in Red-Land that gets you one small media mag.

Those too lazy to read up on a camera they will be using professionally should just quit and leave the job to someone more deserving.

If having no respect for lazy losers makes me an elitist then so be it.

Probably the dumbest thing I've ever read on reduser.

Maybe if Red was mass producing consumer-level camcorders, and sponsoring A-list DP's to shoot with Dragons and Epics, this comparison might contain a shred of validity.

Something needs to be done about the signal-to-noise ratio on these threads...

I just discovered that the same problem exists with the traffic light and clip meters :(
