  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Trost Slider GROUP BUY - limited time

Just wanted to post up some initial thoughts and a handful of photos. The blog covers a few adapters and Mitchell mounting options out of the box. I'll keep adding as I get more field time with them.

Thanks Jason, this blog post is great. Super thorough, and it highlights both the strengths and weaknesses of the mounting options we offer right now. Man, we *really* need to get you a lower profile Mitchell mount...

Jason and Gabe, this is an area I would really like to see addressed...
"There is some slight side to side rocking that occurs on the 50cm. I improved it by tightening the 50cm bottom puck receiver a 1/2 turn. This gives a tighter bite onto the puck. Ideally, a deeper puck receiver (part with the tightening lever) would be available for heavier loads to allow the top slider to sit "flush" onto the bottom slider's sliding base."

I really prefer to work with the slider on a single tripod with enough spread to handle the aff axis but the puck design is just not up to holding the same weight as the rail on it's own. I'd love to see an optional double size puck reciever that was the same height and twice or 3 times the width to stabilize the slider on single connection operation.

Yes, we're on it. Evin, just to clarify - are you seeing the slop in the receiver between the 50cm axis and the 100cm axis, or the receiver between the 100cm axis and the tripod?

this was my first impression also.

Great idea. Thicker (taller) puck should be able to handle heavier rigs on one tripod.

Do a Group Buy for a Evin Grant Signature Model . . . seriously, I'm not joking. Work with him formally to get a location set tested, pro-model designed and engineered . . . I would pay more for it. Especially if it's personally signed (wink)

Kessler did this with Philip Bloom

It looks like we need to improve the fit for folks who want to support heavy rigs on a single tripod. To be honest, we weren't expecting this to be in demand - but it makes a lot of sense, because setup is so much more efficient on a single tripod.

In the mean time, you should be able to eliminate the slop by tightening the collar/receiver about 1/4 turn with the included 3mm wrench. Here's a video showing how to do this - I know some people have missed this since the 3mm bolt is somewhat hidden:

Evin you are correct of course, yet I must say that it was the first thing I did when using the Center Solo Tripod Support for the slider, actually I also did tho with the 100mm, but with the full Epic set up only on the 50mm.

I think this is something that it is so easy for the operator to do is a no issue to me, yet I can understand been a better thing done by the manufacturer as not all might think about it off the top.

But it must be a given that if one uses the center ONLY support, then one must make sure that it is properly tighten or should I say just slightly "Over" tighten... ;)

100mm axis and the tripod, sorry should have clarified. I have tried over-tightening the receiver and it helps but does not completely eliminate the droop.

I'm nitpicking of course, but everything else on the slider is so well executed I really want to see you guys hit it out of the park ;)

Like Evin said, the whole reason for the critiques is because we're passionate about this already great slider system. I'd definitely buy a "signature" edition.

Gabe - one option that would really sell to overseas guys (and here too) is matching the puck size of a euro bazooka/socket. This would really widen your mounting options and improve stability.

Ketch, I think you're right about this. These quick release collars should be very secure when you first open the box... this is a change we can make.

Nitpicking is welcome! We love all the high fives, but criticism and suggestions like this are a huge practical help. Please keep it coming... and sooner rather than later I hope to have some results to show you guys.

Here's another link to the Euro mounting options:

This is one of the reasons why I love these so much...versatility. Euro Bazooka's are excellent for tight spaces and have a huge range of accessories. You could either do the 3 bolt or the single center bolt Puck and then swap to a kipp lever for the receiver. You would likely have to widen the slider track and create an "HD" version for Mitchell heads but the concept of the pucks and multi axis is really a homerun. I'll send some sketches over.

One thing I would love to see added to this slider are magnetic stops.
Similar to what you get on the cineped and Ronford Baker slider.
One permanent magnetic stop at one end. Another optional one at the other end that is movable along the track to mark an end stop.
i don't know how easy this is to implement on the current version, either way would love to see it on this slider.

That's a great find, thanks. We're getting some samples of Euro mounts in order to take a closer look.

What do you like about the magnetic stops? The fact that you get a warning before you hit the end?
