Just playing around with some new Epic configurations today. This is the new Wooden Camera Quick Back battery plate with an IDX V-lock. This will power the camera for hours.

Looks cool. What's that handle/grip? I'm lovin' that!

I'm loving the Wooden Camera Quick Back too. Very nice design and build quality.

Tom,

It looks like you have the 70-200 f4L mounted on your Epic. What is your impression of that lens? In most rig photos seems that everyone uses the f2.8 version. I have wondered how the f4 would work out? Thanks for your great input.

Tom

No, that is the new Canon 70-200 IS 2.8. It's the sharpest Canon lens I've ever seen.

Noticed the 70-200. I just received the 2.8 L. In your opinion are there any significant advantages in the IS version if used mainly with the Epic and 5d(timelapses)? I still have time to make the change

The new IS version 70-200 2.8 is simply in a league of its own when it comes to Canon lenses.

Ideas? prism? Mounting the gyro on the back rather that underneath? I once made an L shaped plate (mounting the Kenyon vertically) using the K6 and an Aaton LTR that worked well. The Kenyons work vertically and horizontally. Mount the gyro on the top of a cage? Careful of the water. These are just ideas to throw at you. Let me know what you come up with and what works.

Had some fun down at Salton Sea this evening, using the 70-200 with the doubler! The latest Epic firmware does in fact allow for the use of the 2x by Canon. I assume it also works with the 1.4x, but I am not sure about that.

Oh man Tom. I came so close to heading out there after driving back from Austin. Now that would have been something :) Great looking sky!

Hi Tom! love your work man!! seen Timescapes about 100 times and I'm still finding amazing "new" details! We also own a 70/200 IS USM II.. what's your thought on this lens compared with RPP 100 or 300? Which tripod heads do you recommend for smooth pans and tilts with a 25 pounds Epic package? keep up the good work!!

I can't compare the Canon 70-200mm IS II to the Red lenses, because I have not really used the Red lenses. But I can tell you that in my experience, the new 70-200 is the sharpest and best lens Canon makes, that I have shot with. I absolutely love it. My Epic footage is SO much sharper when I use this lens vs other telephotos.

I'm a Sachtler man, personally. I love the quality of their build, and the heads are super-duper smooth. I'm trying to get a 7+7 right now from them.

BTW, here is a photo from our old Red MX. I'm going through older footage right now and came across this.

This sequence was shot in Bridgeport, CA with a slider and Zeiss standards.

Here is my current 4K PC editing setup. I am going to make a post about this in Hardware or Workflow soon.

Nice setup Tom.

I do have similar PC HP based setup, but due to many issues with HP hardware I migrated to Mac. My PC now is being used for e-mail and PC-only applications.
As a PC person I would love to find a way how to get a flawless PC setup at some point soon since Apple it falling to support the pro market.

Apple is nonsense, IMO. People are jumping ship from Apple and FCP in record numbers. Hop on board, and get yourself a sick PC setup.

Tom,

They don't even MAKE Apple's as fast or as good as my PC setup! It's ridiculous man! I've never understood the sheep mentality... glad there's another Sheppard out there besides me!

Tom what kind of top cheese plate is that with the WC handle and sort of hanging out front for the monitor to hang on.
Just got my camera and Im going nuts trying to keep it light and not just start bolting a bunch of cheese plates and risers everywhere.
Thanks
Russ
