  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tilta Nucleus Nano available for PreOrder $229.

Just got mine. Threw it on the alexia mini powered through a port I have that gives 5v 1A, so about 1/2 power to the motor vs powering with 14v. Anyway, it works great on lenses that don't have resistance. I have some stiffer cine lenses and it can't keep up at all. More testing to come...

PS where can i get the cable that has full 14v p-tap to micro USB?

Tilta made me one...ping them

Hey Jake - any word on your tests? Still a lot of lag with the stiffer lenses?

I've been researching the same thing with few results.
There is this one at B&H, with 2A output at the micro USB: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1299023-REG/gyrovu_gv_dtap_musb_d_tap_to_micro_usb.html

There are many regulated P-tap to microUSB cables like this. Finding one without regulation is hard... Then again wiring a custom one should be quite trivial since it requires no electronics and only 2 solders. Just cut the Type-A connection off any microUSB cable and solder the DC +- to a PTAP connector. Just be sure never to use it on pretty much any other MicroUSB device ever...

Just received my unit. Hand wheel seems to like to shut off when I hold the "Cal" button when I try to auto calibrate. Other than that, it's not too shabby for the few minutes I've played with it. I'll hopefully get to test it a bit more after this upcoming week.

Looks like the second wave of orders might be going out, I just got an invoice that says my order is being processed. Hope to have it this week...

Got mine from B&H arrived Friday. Torque at 5v USB seem sufficient for everything I've thrown at it so far.
I think that for size and cost it's a no brainer, but not going to pry the Preston out of any serious AC's hands.

Crazy useful for Ronin S - you can power it from the gimbal with included cable.
Need to make a little bracket to attach the handwheel to the gimbal handle itself the included clamp thing is wonky.

Anybody start playing with the run stop cables ?

Got mine today (yaaay!) and powered it up. Nice compact kit and feels of good quality. Paired and worked immediately. BUT with a Rokinon Cine DS lens on Sony Alpha camera, found motor to be sluggish and overworked. Not a massive PL lens, with Roki was expecting system to be more direct, less laggy. Motor was powered with 5v USB. Looking to try with higher voltage D tap to see if additional power makes motor more snappy.

I do have torquier Nucleus M motors that will work with Nano hand unit, but hoping the Nano motor has sufficient strength for at least Roki's with the higher D tap voltage.

I experimented a bit with a cable direct ( 12v over micro USB ) from the Ronin S to the motor input. There's a huge difference in motor torque at higher input voltage. No issue driving the Sigma Cineprimes at 12v, whereas marginally usable at 5v. I need to make a trip up to Tilta to get the unregulated D-tap to Micro cable.

This may help (not the Nano thou)...

Got mine at the end of last week. Seems pretty nice so far, due for some extensive testing when I get a chance. It's great that it is so compact and simple to set up. The manual calibration seems quite easy.

Heard from Tilta Burbank today that D-tap to mini usb (for higher voltage to motor) not yet available, but they're working on it so it should be (hopefully) soon.

Anyone have any photos of it mounted on a DSMC2 body? Just wondering if the motor is actually tall enough to mount on 15mm LW rods.
