So i bought a P-tap to micro usb cable and took out the regulator so its just wired straight. Plugged it in and there is a huge difference in motor strength. With 5v is only really usable on lenses with little or no resistance. With 12v it turns lenses that have a fair amount of resistance. It can't keep up with fast racks spanning the entire range, but I wouldn't expect it to. I've really only played a bit around the house with it so longevity and dependability are big question marks. But its so cheap. I wanted a way to pull my own focus when shooting movi around the house, and the hand wheel actually comes with a mount for the movi pro ring. Having no cables to the handwheel is pretty awesome. Start/stop would be cool but not a must have for me, I'd rather have no cables.
Did I mention this thing is practically free?
2 annoying things:
- motor mount is not movable, so no height adjustment
- no way to reverse motor direction on hand wheel that i know of, maybe with an update? Or maybe there IS a way but it's not in the instructions
