  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I read many pages and I missed the point on the windows of opportunity (sorry, english is not my primary language).
My question is: upgrading from my MX, I will have time only tomorrow from the deal, or it will start tomorrow and it will last until some time you'll announce?

I have managed to scrape together enough cash to turn my Scarlet-W into an Epic-W, Tuesday is a day I wasn't entirely sure would ever happen for me. But thanks to you and your crew, it's happening.

I am a Scarlet-W preorder upgrader going through a dealer, is it possible I could use the drunken finance plan for extra minimags and the new EVF direct through Red on Tuesday?

Thanks for it all, long time lurker, soon to be Red owner.

No you will have till Dec 31st to do the normal MX upgrade deal after the announcement.
 
Wow. Jarred! Insane work ethic. It runs through the company, I'm sure. Sunday, at 10:46 you're answering things. Damn.

I'm so glad I check here often, I was surprised how many people didn't even know about an Epic-W upgrade path, clearly not REDusers :)

Super excited about 11th, hearts racing.. tomorrow's going to be a long day.
 
Thanks for all the info so far Jarred. Couple questions if you don't mind.
1. Is it possible that the announcement/release will come anytime in the middle of the night (before 9am)?
2. Seeing people put in Scarlet-W deposits today to take advantage of the huge discount makes me wonder if our Scarlet-W time stamp means anything when placing the Epic-W switchover order? (A December/first day deposit vs. Oct. 9 deposit). Or if that is irrelevant if you switch.

1. I'd bet on around 11am PST.

2. Your time stamp matters the most. The people putting in deposits today get a today timestamp. You with an earlier time stamp will get your camera first... if you press the go button that day one.

but... there is one thing that kinda throws that for a loop. Since we have such a massive amount of cameras ready to ship on Tuesday, It's going to be a bit of a free-for-all. It really depends how many Scarlet-W to Epic-W switchers call in that first day.

If at the end of the day we have more cameras left over than people with early deposits call in to switch, we are going to move those cameras out the door to whoever shows up because we are in full manufacturing swing... and will be making a healthy amount of cameras every day.

So come day 2, we kinda reset and take the orders and see who that day has the earliest time stamp from before this all and ship them out and if there are any left over they goto whoever is next on the standby. rinse and repeat.

And Dealers.. they will have a bunch of cameras in inventory as well, and they are supposed to follow the time stamp for their own orders, but that's impossible for us to police which is why i suggest if you have your order in with a dealer you should show up there and bribe the hell out them.

This all of course assumes we get a controllable amount of orders that first day. If it goes way off the charts and we get more SW to EW orders than we have stock of.... then its kind of insanity and your timestamp is even more important.

Oh man I just got all giddy (even though I know it's not a guarantee). We are talking the Irvine location right? I'm working in Irvine that day and may just have to take a long lunch haha. I will bring flowers, chocolates, whiskey, whatever it takes to walk out the door with one, haha.

Edit: A little embarrassed that this had to be my first post, haha. For the record, I pre-ordered Scarlet-W back in February and this will be my first RED. Expect to see many more contributions from me in the future :-)

This REDloop deal (as I like to refer to the loophole deal) reminds of 2014 when Jarred posted about the Epic Dragon deal on fb. I saw it 2 days later and I was super mad at Jarred. Why did he choose fb to announce a juicy deal instead of RU. I was going to upgrade my Scarlet MX to Epic Dragon for 19k, then came the REDloop, new (less than 5hrs of use as claimed by Jarred) Epic Dragon for 20k. Guess what, I hitup my rep and begged the hell out of him. Next day he got me one from the high ups, and had less that 5mins run time on it! For 20k, I got a new Epic Dragon and got to keep my 2011 Scarlet-MX. Rather 19k upgrade of Scarlet-MX to get the same Epic Dragon.

If you are an MX and you are not taking advantage of REDloop because you feel its gaming the system, I think you are looking at it from a different perspective. This how I see it, consider this a father giving up his supper so his children can have breakfast. I believe Jarred love his cameras, his company, and his profit but I bet you that Jarred loves your success MORE! I bet he's super happy learning his tools are changing lives, helping people make a living. So if taking a bottom hit empowers more people, gives more opportunities, then he's going to do it. He chose that path of helping us! Anything short of this is Jarred driving to our houses and handing you a free camera with a box stashed of dollars as your retirement plan! (And Jarred, should you choose to do that, please I am #1 on the list) :-)

If you are an MX consider REDloop a gift, otherwise Jarred would have set a cutoff the 1st day he mention the path! And I as a Scarlet-MX would take it. BTW, my MX still rents out, though cheap but still brings in money, its worth a whole lot more than RED is willing to buy it back! That shows the power and value of the tools RED has given us!

Just to confirm for those outside the US (and this is my first time at doing a mad rush like this, i missed the original S-W announcement and not making that mistake twice) and i hope i'm not being too pedantic.

Should we be looking to press a button on the red.com site or dropping a mail to our bomb squad rep? I've already spoken to her here in the UK and am waiting to see the full announcement and see if the drunken finance works outside of the US, but 11am PST will be 18:00 here and i doubt anyone from Red UK will be around at the time.

So in terms of allocation - i have my S-W order with an April Timestamp. The site goes live and all those that want to switch stake their claim. But in the UK if we do it through our local reps then there will be nothing taken until the next morning most likely, so we'll miss a day of allocations. But if we're supposed to do it via the Red.com site that's not the issue.

Again, apologise for being so pedantic about it all... just don't want to miss out :)

Hi Paul, I´m not a 100% sure, but I think Jarred said that you should do it through red.com as the BS would be drowning in emails if everyone did it that way. You will keep your April timestamp, I´m pretty sure.

Prices are roughly
MX to Epic-W is $20.000
Dragon to Epic-W is $15.000
Deposit prices has not yet been announced
(Correct me if I´m wrong)

Have your Scarlet-W / Raven deposits paid until monday evening or your Epic/Scarlet MX/Dragon registered to your red.com account. Then be ready October 11. to order your upgrade and transfer the money (new deposit) ASAP.
One day to go, looking forward! :)
