It's important to think about the future just as much as you think about the past.
Is it OK for a grown man to make a "squee" sound when he reads something?
This hints at even more awesomeness.

That is sort of a different question than Scarlet-W vs Epic-W, more like a film stock question.
Epic-W ( and Weapon helium ) both have the luxury of you making that choice down the road. After we catch up with Dragon sensor production you will be able to make that choice after the fact by just paying for a sensor swap. So Epic-W can pay to change to a Dragon sensor, and Weapon Helium can pay to change to a Weapon Dragon, just by change of the sensor.
That is why we don't write Dragon or Helium on the side of those cameras. And those sensor upgrades is a path that Scarlet-W and Raven cannot take.
You would keep your body, so Epic-W, for example, but swap the sensor out, so you can have a Dragon sensor in your Epic-W body. From that cryptic reply, seems like the Dragon 8K VV, but I may just be looking too far into that.Sorry, either I've misunderstood things, or I simply don't understand that point (sorry Jarred!). I though Weapon was the latest, better sensor of the two? Changing to a Dragon would appear to me to be a backward step to an older sensor? What would be the benefits of somebody going from an Epic Weapon to Epic Dragon? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I just don't understand that?

Untitled by Michael Reiken, on FlickrAs someone somewhere else mooted, we may be looking down the line at Hydrogen, which takes the Helium science and applies it to Dragon-esque pixel density.
I reckon that's the future Jarred is talking about.
There are TWO current sensors: Dragon and Helium. Helium is newer and has more resolution (8K vs. 6K) but each sensor has advantages.
Weapon is more of a body name referring to the new DSMC2 chassis. Epic, Scarlet, etc... those are all just LEVEL names or something like that. Epic will always be better than Scarlet, if they share the same basic body type.
That's how I see it all anyway.
Epic weapon is not a thing. It's Epic-W. Weapon is the top of the line in each sensor line.Aarrrggghhh!! Thanks Andy, this is all so confusing. I love RED, I love the openness, the advance technology, the interaction with key people on here, but the naming concepts just confuse the hell out of me! DSMC2 I understand. And I get the Raven, Scarlett, Epic bit, but then we get weapon which seems to confuse it all - my head hurts!
So coming back to topic, what we are saying is that although there are advantages to both, Weapon is the newer sensor, but given Jarreds cryptic comment, both could continue to be developed alongside each other? But Epic Weapon, has the helium 8k sensor in it, just not the horsepower of the the Weapon helium 8K? Am I Right?
Thanks for being with the explanations guys.
