  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

do we know the cost from woven/forged weapon to weapon helium yet? wondering if it may just be a sensor swap? that would be great for existing weapon folks!

Hey all - I'm new to RED and just put in a deposit on a Scarlet-W about a month or two ago. Super pumped. Loving all of this Epic-W talk, but (like Tom below), I think 5K and 4K will work for me for now - especially with FOV and frame rates.

So, just wanted to throw in my two cents that I would also be down for the below if it means potentially getting the camera sooner (since I'm deep in the queue) and maybe even saving a little money.

Honestly, this discussion forum and seeing all the support from the RED team on here solidifies the choice to go to RED for me. Excited to be part of the crew!

As a S-W depositor, I'm actually not interested in the E-W upgrade. I don't have the extra $10k, I don't really want to shoot at 7K to get S35 FOV, etc etc.

But what I would be interested in would be one of the S-Ws that gets turned in for the E-W swap. If it's inspected and warrantied as if new, I'd be totally happy to pay up to (or close to) the full price I was expecting to pay for a new camera, especially if it means it got into my hands quicker.

Is there any way some proportion of the turn-ins could be offered to S-W depositors who are still waiting for cameras, but who don't want to go the E-W route?

Everyone's a winner - the S-W queue gets slashed even further, I get my camera sooner and potentially at a discount and the E-W folks get their deal too. The only folks who lose out are the military and education customers but who cares about them? :)


And if the answer is no, that's totally cool and understandable and I won't feel at all hard done by not to be taking advantage of the insanely generous E-W offer.

Cost, not yet known. However, regarding the sensor swap (Post 2104):

Carbon Weapon Owners don't have a deadline because for them to go to Helium Weapon is just a normal sensor swap... they can do that next year if they want to.

What we know:
8K up to 30FPS At least as good as Redcode 9:1, maybe better... unknown
7K at least up to 30FPS
6.5K WS at least up to 48FPS
6K up to 75FPS
6K WS up to 100 FPS

Remember that Scarlet-W FOV at 5K FF is nearly identical to Epic-W at 6.5K FF

When do we just have a sticky post with all the facts culled down to one?
 
everybody around me have been laughing at me since 01/02 waiting for my camera like
"where's your camera?"
But I'm definitely going to have the last laugh. Especially with the 4K ProRes!!!!
 
I thought for sure the path from Weapon CF Dragon to Weapon Helium was disclosed at some point on this thread but I'm digging through and can't find it. Does anyone know for sure?

9:1 MAX was never confirmed. Jarred hit us with the max to put that to bed! :)

I can alter my post to say "at least"

I can't imagine Epic-W can do much better that 9:1 at 8K but we will know soon enough.

We also don't know if it can do 8K RAW and 4K ProRes at the same time.

Well, I made up my mind today after mulling it over and talking to my red rep contact. Going Epic-W!!!! Had my 3rd party vendor change my current order to the Scarlet-W and then I'll take the upgrade path on the 11th. Glad I found this thread and spent all that time reading! Thanks for everyone's input in this thread, especially Jarred and Brent, to help us all make better informed decisions. Obviously I'll be deep down the line on the SW list, but hoping there is just enough EW's being shipped to my vendor that I might be able to grab one in the first batch. Although I know it might be a bit of a wait. In the meantime I'll stockpile my money.

Here's looking to getting my first Red!!!

Hey alright, another Austin-based Jim! We should grab coffee!

I've been mulling it over myself, and at this point in my business I don't know that I can really justify the extra 10k premium for the Epic-W, so I'm gonna hang loose and just watch how things unfold, and enjoy everyone else's happiness with the upgrade paths. I'm really excited for the Sigma cine lenses, and am thinking I'll just upgrade my whole kit once those are available.
 
I have yet to deliver a project as 4K to any client, even though I had an Epic-X for 4 years and was on order for a Scarlet-W. Yet, I've switched my order to 8K Epic-W.

Why?

- 34MB stills.
- Latest Red tech : Helium sensor and color - really looking forward to what Graeme has cooked up
- Oversampling
- Low-light

Yes, data management will be a chore and more SSDs will be expensive... but I believe the final imagery, even finished at 2K, will be amazing.
 
It looks like I'm gonna be stuck riding a process trailer out in Barstow on the 11th. Maybe I can just inform my rep that I want to go from s-w to e-w and he can process it immediately on the 11th?

I've delivered 12k before. Three epics stitched together. Looking at shooting 8k for Barco Escape on a single camera.
