Epic MX will do 100fps at 5k, I do it all the time. Actually I shoot 95.9fps which is 4x 23.98, but that is pretty close. Unless 6k/5k is important to you Epic-W does not look like that much of a step forward in frame rate.

Thanks. Im still very happy to keep shooting on my Epic MX. If it was $17,500 plus I got to keep my Epic Mx i think I would made a the jump=)

When the epic was born my only big complaint was it was not 100fps in 5k and 125 in 4k. That had been so sweet. I think my next Red camera will have fullframe but right now I think Im better served with something else to compliment the Epic.

Happys days

so sold on the camera its not even funny. Just need to know if the drunk finance plan makes it the reality i want it to be

The Epic-W can hit 75 fps at 6K FF (6144 x 3240) , 100 fps at 6K WS (6144 x 2592)
I'm sold... But damn will I miss my Scarlet-W. I am so attached to this camera that letting it go would be painful. Honestly took this camera over any other for a lot of jobs, even though I was offered rentals.
I was one of the first few to play around with it. A lot of people liked this project I shot early when S-W came out, it really shows what the camera can do, and honestly for those not upgrading to Epic-W, there is nothing you are losing out on. For me the S-W is up there as one of the best cameras ever made.

I hope you built a TON of Epic W's !!!!!

I hope my dealer is on point with my order!!!

6K is a nice sweet spot in terms of resolution and crop on the Epic-W.

It is no mistake that at 6K on Epic-W that crop is pretty much the exact same size of APS-C ( 22.4mm wide ) , and that is where most other S35 cameras sit within a mm or so for comparison.

6K crop puts you right exactly back where ALL your S35mm lenses will fit... which is kinda the whole point.

And yes Andy you can have your 50FPS.

The Epic-W can hit 75 fps at 6K FF (6144 x 3240) , 100 fps at 6K WS (6144 x 2592)

Amazed! After the earlier comment "not a chance..." I really didn't expect 75fps at 6K. Great news. And very much appreciated from PAL land. (Starting to look for things to sell)

I think you mean weapon helium and it is 49k same as stormtroopers

White WEAPON HELIUM were not $49K, they were $59,500

Thank you! Er... any accessory love for weapon H upgrade? :)

Been answered. Nope.

Jarred, Brent,

I've read a good many of the pages here, although not all 378.....

I've got two Epic Dragons with two NAB'15 15K deposits for CF Weapons-8K, which I never pulled the trigger on. Now Weapon Helium is for me! Can the deposits be applied? Accessory credit still available? Has the upgrade price been posted (or estimated)?

BTW, love the fact that you can run a wildly successful business and continue to give stuff away like this!

You are in great shape, Steve. You can send in your EPIC DRAGONS for upgrade (when you are up in queue) to get the WEAPON CF upgrade package you are down for, and get it with HELIUM 8K at no additional charge.

Once a VV sensor is allocated to you, you can choose to pop that in or stay 8K HELIUM. Your choice, and no additional charge.

I would love to see a photo of Brent's face this morning.... Monday morning 8am PST and all of a sudden lots of beans and no whisky to swallow them.

Jarred can you call Tim Cook and give him some business advice? Seriously though.
The one thing that RED sets apart from others is, that they work truly passionate on something they love to work on, they work on realizing a vision - and great success comes with that - while others work solely on achieving financial success. Most people and companies are driven by the wrong things, beginning with greed and selfishness.

RED has a lot of things done right, by doing them differently. I guess if they would give advice to others, those would shake their heads a few times too often. Would a guy like Tim Cook listen? Or Steve Jobs? Not sure about it.

Apple's success came from other things, they never had that kind of morality and business ethics like RED.

If you look at the few rare true visionaries we currently have, you'll notice they think differently than the usual companies in the business. And now think about who is actually bringing us forward and pushing the boundaries?

Yes, we could use and need a lot more companies doing business like RED, or for example SpaceX and Tesla. But i guess, it's a long road until more people realize this way of doing business is the future.

If you think the vision that drove Apple was based on making money, you don't know the Apple history. Steve Jobs may have been an ass but he wasn't in it for the money any more than Jim Jannard is/was. Jobs was self righteous, pompous, rude and egotistical but he was also a genius and he was driven to make great products.

It is clearly a matter of personal opinion but I think Tim Cook has carried on with Apple very honorably; they still innovate and make exceptional products. And more than ever they pay attention to environmental issues.

But we are off topic, aren't we... :-)

This has been asked in a couple of different ways but I don't think I have seen a definitive answer...

I am a Scarlet Dragon owner who has ordered a Scarlet-W package (with the discount). I haven't yet taken delivery so if f I want to move my order to Epic-W, I still get to hang on to my existing Dragon, correct? Seems to make sense from the implications in the programs but just want to be absolutely sure...

This was answered way back.... Would have to dig for it... But as I understood it the gist of it was: with this special "we're sorry" discount your deposit / time stamp acts like a regular Scarlet-W deposit order. That's it. So if you want to move your timestamp to Epic-W you can... But would loose that accessory package. Not sure if you would have to send in the old camera body though. I'm kinda thinking that was also answered as yes.

I wish Apple would make the ultimate video editing workstation but apparently that "market" isn't as profitable any more for them... I suppose THAT is a money decision. After getting this E-W, I need a new machine and I've NEVER used windows since 1984 when I got my first Mac. But you're right Terry, this is off track.

RED is a mind-boggling awesome company. I don't understand how you guys do it (Jarred/Brent & Co.). I just want to say Thank You once more. I'm just very much looking forward to the 11th and the days that follow.

Someone asked about a time travel device. I think Red has managed to create a time slowing device. These last few days (and I'm sure the next 8) have moved much slower than the regular space-time continuum dictates. The 11th can't get here fast enough.

Thanks for the extra time. Thanks for the awesome cameras. Thanks for everything!

I think you are mistaken about sending in the old Scarlet Dragon as it wouldn't make much sense - logically for the program or financially for the owner. After all, if you simply put in a Scarlet-W order for a body, without even owning a previous RED, you still get to move to Epic-W. Since all you've paid so far is the deposit, you simply pay the cost attributed to the Scarlet-W plus the $10K bump for the Epic-W - presumably around $20K. I probably just answered my own question but that's why I am checking.

Yes, if you haven't yet taken delivery, you do lose the discount on the accessory package; that much has been made crystal clear. But you also haven't paid anything at this point, either. So, you are merely "trading in" the right to a Scarlet-W for the right to the discounted Epic-W at a special price.

Alright, I've been trying to follow the thread more closely - Here's My understanding - please correct if wrong!

TRADE IN (EPIC-DRAGON + $14.5k) and get an EPIC-W Helium.
TRADE IN (MX based camera + $19.5k) and get an EPIC-W Helium.

-or-

KEEP my camera, place a 1k SCARLET-W deposit pre OCT 11, and switch que to EPIC-W for additional 19k (20k total)

-meaning-

$5.5k in addition to $14.5k offer lets me keep my EPIC-DRAGON + get EPIC-W Helium? (20k total)
$500 in addition to $19.5k offer lets me keep my MX based camera + get EPIC-W Helium? (20k total)

Is it confirmed whether these prices are definitively TRADE IN or a CREDIT (i.e. keep your camera)?
The value proposition would be confusing if it were the former (as some have pointed out)..

:-)

FWIW, starting now and ending in 10 days is a "2 years foolcontrol iOS release anniversary" promo running.

Talking about editing is fair, isn't it? ;-)

Let's not forget how much the overall workflow is being improved even without the massive hardware implicit in handling 8K. If you haven't watched Toia's vimeo post yet, by all means do. He clearly explains his requirements for post and they are simple - and handled by a current MacBook Pro with FCPX. From my POV, if it's good enough for Mark Toia, it's good enough (actually, probably too good) for me. My next machine is likely to be the next gen iMac with 5K (6K??) display.

Lets hope for a new macbook pro next month. I think that's going to be the go to portable for anyone that hasn't switched to the XPS yet.
