  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

please do integral multiples of 24 or 30
so 48fps 8K would be fabulous, but who shoots at 40fps?

k thx for confirming - ideally 24fps though, right?
And PLEASE add HDMI 2.0 out even if 4:2:0
Pulling focus for 8K using HD screen is not workable unless you have super calibrated lenses and tape measure the marks
Which is not happening for Indie
8K 24fps and HDMI 2 (even if 8 bit 4:2:0 and not gradeable output) would be super disruptive to the competition!

Weapon H - 8K @ 120 fps in S35 (given that NHK needs 8K @ 120 fps for the new SHV standard)
Now that would kick big time - what is the data rate at 4:1? !!!!

jarred/brent: if i have a woven upgrade (from epic-D) deposit in prior to 10/11, am i able to transition it to the weapon helium queue on 10/11, applying my deposit to the new upgrade path? pending thats possible, can i add the delta of the helium sensor upgrade to my order and just stay in line?

thanks!

Joey, if you have a deposit in for existing WEAPON carbon upgrade, we will honor it post Oct 11. At that time, you can choose to keep as-is (and get WEAPON 6K as part of existing package) or go to the new offer for folks with EPIC DRAGON into WEAPON or EPIC-W.

MX sensor is closest but is not sold anymore.

Dragon sensor is the next closest at 4kHD,

Helium is quite far from s35 at 4khd.

Camera doesn't matter, sensor does. If prores is allowed, then any of the higher end weapons can do 4kUHD at any sensor 'crop factor'.

so you are saying that at 4khd, all dragon cameras, epic, raven, scarlet-w, carbon fiber weapon, all use the exact same size portion of the sensor?

Yeah, Dragon sensor at 4khd is 19.2mm x 10.8mm on all of those cameras.

There are 200 pixels per mm, so the math is easy. Just take the resolution divided by 200 to get the the coverage. 3840/200 = 19.2 and 2160/200 = 10.8.

Helium has 274 pixels per mm

My big concern is that I don't get a tighter FOV with the move to Epic-W from S-W. And based on the comparison via Phil's site, it looks like I'll be fine right? Thanks for all the peeps doing the homework and deduction to figure out what MAY be the case on Oct. 11th. Speculation is half the fun :).

Nevermind, I do lose quite a bit of FOV when shooting BOTH at 5K HD : http://phfx.com/tools/formatCompare...Helium&formatTwo_format=5K HD&focalLengths=15

However, shooting at 7K HD and 5K HD, helium is slightly more : http://phfx.com/tools/formatCompare...Helium&formatTwo_format=7K+HD&focalLengths=15

At 6K HD for Helium is when it gets smaller FOV wise than my S-W : http://phfx.com/tools/formatCompare...Helium&formatTwo_format=6K+HD&focalLengths=15

Nifty nifty tool PH, thank you for building it!! I'd be happy for 8K 24P and 7K 60P with Epic-W! Excited for the unveiling!

Yes that is correct. How do you have over 1800 reduser posts and not know this?
NO offense intended. Just playful wording ;)

It's easy, it's only done by sensor. For dragon sensor, no matter what camera, field of view will be the same across different camera models with a given resolution and the same lens. With helium the same is true for all helium cams, but field of view at a given resolution and lens will NOT be the same between helium and dragon. The helium lenses will appear much more telephoto on helium at 4K than on dragon at 4K for example

ok, well that was an easy answer. i wonder if you use a camera with way more resolution that is cropping much more into the sensor you still get as clean as an image as you do with a camera that crops less.
the other reason i ask is that i did a whole show with the raven and a carbon weapon, wound up being 80 percent raven since that was the steadicam camera and car mount camera, and even the post supervisor said that camera looked a bit cleaner, it wont be noticeable on the finish, just when they were working in vfx.
but both cameras had to shot in 4khd mandated by the post supervisor.
too bad that red just doesnt have a s35 4khd format, i would think that would be the standard for todays productions.

sorry, its because this is my first camera i actually owned and before this ive only used the highest end camera, with all these new introductions, raven, scarlet-w, epic-w, i was confused with what would happen with a sensor crop when going to 4khd.
now it seems like i wont be shooting with a helium anytime soon since im forced to shoot in a way higher resolotuin than any production would let me.
