If you have Epic Dragon, you are going to pay more to Upgrade straight to Epic-W than if you had a Weapon MG to Epic-W , and you don't get the great MG accessory package.

i want to go all the way up to WPN-H (carbon) from epic-D, but my fear is losing the $5K AKS credit and the great items that come with the pre-NAB dragon package. do i need to do that upgrade to WPN-D now and upgrade my sensor to helium later, so i get all of the added benefits of the pre-NAB upgrade path? thank you s much for all of this info and generosity!

It's insane to think about 8K Weapon or helium when I see the amazing results already on my Weapon MG at 6K... Even the low light is so much better than DSMC 1 (imho) and the Color science so beautiful... Anyway, 8K is the path for sure, and more love to coming from RED is just breathtaking. So happy more options are on the table and so far I find them great deals for whatever options we have....

Why 8K is so important? There is almost no way to see even 4k,5k,6k! The final output format anyway HD in 90% of cases. There is even no tv even for 5K. Why we need 8K? Anyway we will downscale it to HD for music video, commercials, youtube.

Jarred. I am not a native english speaker. I did not want to complain. For me Weapon MG upgrade is a very good deal with the accessory package and the accessory credit. I have ordered it last year. I have already paid everything.

Yes Norbet.. people seem to quickly forget how good of a deal it was for them to upgrade into Weapon 6k Mg in the first place. Most of them already received basically the same deal to go from their Epic Dragons to Weapon Dragons that Sacrlet-W owners are getting to goto Epic-W but I understand.. people want to double dip.

Its like when you have two kids and one kid falls off his bike and you give him a cookie to make him feel better the other kid throws a temper tantrum and wants a cookie too. I get it..Human nature.

At any rate... As I already said all MG owners can go sideways and pay a bit less than those Scarlet-W guys are getting. And remember, most of you paid net less to upgrade to your MG cameras than Scarlet-W paid to get their cameras in the first place.

The other option unique to MG owners is to to pay 15k to upgrade all the way to the top of the line Weapon Helium 8K ( the $49k camera )

Dragon owners will not be able to upgrade to Weapon MG after October 11th, so if Helium doesn't interest you, and that's the camera you really want, this is your time to get it.

If you have Epic Dragon, you are going to pay more to Upgrade straight to Epic-W than if you had a Weapon MG to Epic-W , and you don't get the great MG accessory package.

But honestly I was talking to a buddy about it. The SW at that price IS "disruptive" and is sooooooo attractive for producers. basically the perfect camera for today. Its soo hard choosing to have the camera of future now, or the baddest camera on the block for todays needs (IMHO SCARLET-W).

edit: i think its should be said. even if you do not take THIS offer from red. I THINK the SCARLET-W will continue to be future proof for the DSMC2 line

I said it the day it was announced, Scarlet-w is such an insane camera at that price point. For any other brand it would be their flagship camera and wouldn't offer in body raw recording or changeable OLPFs.

For anyone who is upset because they are still waiting for their MG upgrade while SW gets a discount, just switch your deposit over to SW and take advantage of that upgrade price? For anyone who has their MG remember that many SW owners don't have any camera yet.

Any sneak-peek of what Epic-MX owners could expect? I skipped the Dragon upgrade years back for various reasons (including getting married and needing to get a house/mortgage). I'd assumed that took me out of any upgrade options indefinitely. Seeing Jarred tease a possible upgrade path for Epic-MX owners was an unexpected surprise.

I've since sold my Epic-X, bit the bullet and bought a Carbon Weapon (which had me almost as schoolgirl-giddy as when my Red One #329 arrived 8 years ago). But I've still got a Mysterium-X Epic-M that is begging me to turn the M into a W

Jarred if we've paid our $5K upgrade deposit are we safe? We just haven't sent in our Epic Dragon to be upgraded cuz we're shooting a lot and informed by our bomb rep the wait could be considerable (a month, etc).

Id love to avoid spending too much on rentals while down a body...

However we do have a second Epic D that is currently not on any path...Putting its Magnesium deposit down before Oct 11th would put it safely in a line yes?

I just wouldnt be able to send them both in before Oct 11th...as both cams may be working pretty solid till then.

Haha. Yeah, seems like we're all getting excited to see what this upgrade path looks like, especially that this map is for customers that don't even have cameras in hand. Jarred's apology and offer is just so fucking cool.

I just want to get this straight. I've heard it mentioned several times, but I can't find any where in the forum that it came from RED themselves that going from S-W to E-W is $10K. I have 2 S-Ws on order. First one with a timestamp on Jan. 1st. Second one is in May. How does that work for me? If the deal is sweet enough, do I have to jump over with both right away?

Also, yes, are we (allowed to know at this point) if the E-W sensor is bigger than S35? 8K is awesome and all, but physical real estate gets me more excited. I use all full frame lenses so getting anything bigger than S35 gets my mojo going. (And no, I'm realisitc, not expecting the VV size. I do like the size of the 6K Dragon sensor though at the 1.25x crop)

Any deets and/or clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Epic-W is 8K Helium, so the sensor is likely 29.9mm x 15.77mm, very slightly smaller than the 6K Dragon sensor which is 30.7mm x 15.8mm. I would be surprised if the sensor in Epic-W were any smaller than the one in Helium 8K Weapon. Very likely the difference will be in data rates, compression, and frame rates (like the difference between Weapon Dragon CF and MG).

I'm not sure of the exact page and post numbers, but Jarred definitely posted that those who already have Scarlet-W and also those who've pre-ordered S-W up until Oct 11 qualify for the special pricing. That deal, plus the MG to Helium Weapon deal are just insane. I don't mind waiting until early 2017 for my Epic-W Can't wait for those Bayhem handles, either.
