Scarlet Deal of a Lifetime

Not open for further replies.
as happy as i am to see other people already received theirs.....
i already had funds for a scarlet kit in my red account last week, ready to pick up early this week to get ready for a shoot this weekend....while trying to figure out what to get (accessories, media,....), i came across this thread sunday night at around 8pm...needless to say i clicked the link....bought the brain, saved quite a bit! super happy!
except.... that it is friday...i haven't even received a shipping confirmation....i had to cancel my shoot for the weekend....
i am based in LA, was actually looking forward to picking up in irvine, especially after going to the RED retail store a couple of times, meeting the great people there and getting a good idea of what i would need/want.....i was told that pick up would delay my order, (so that was out) and the latest i have heard is that HOPEFULLY i will get my kit next week....hopefully....
again, i am really happy for all the people who already received their new baby but it is a little strange to hear that people in korea and florida who ordered AFTER i did already received it and mine hasn't even shipped? or i can't pick one up?
like i said, my first experience with RED was at the store and it could not have been better....i am also pretty sure that this is not my rep's fault (why would it?)....just leaves a bad taste....

Count yourself lucky, if you had a shoot rent a camera and don't lose the coin from it. at least that way you could familiariize yourself with a rented rig. Congrats, and don't forget the discount you got -- doesn't happen often. I understand you might want it right now, but complaining, and I learned this as well, will not speed you order up. Don't you think the Bomb Squad wants everyone to have there gear asap... The gear goes through various checks, and maybe your ordered later than the guy in Korea... You will be very happy when it arrives.

Hi Paul,

Believe me we want to get your camera ASAP, all departments are working at full speed.

don't get me wrong.....if i would have made my mind up 1 day earlier (friday) i would have a scarlet but a lot less cash for lenses and other fun stuff.....so i am not complaining....i also understand that a lot of cameras have to go through quality control and such.....so i understand that i have to wait for a while....
but orders placed first should ship first.....especially since i had paid before i even placed the order....

Feel free to process mine last on the list. I don't "need" it at the moment and am happy to wait until all new camera owners get theirs.

Are there any of these cameras left? Anyone in Sweden who bought one who can tell me what the final price ends up at (including tariff's and taxes) ?
Very interested in this deal, but it's quite hard to get a hold of the final price.

Are there any SSD's, batteries and such included in this or is it camera only? What type of Canon mount? Is it working with EF-lenses?

Saddly you missed it.

It was brain only with Red Canon EF mount.

Cheers,
Damien

You pay 5.100 GBP (incl S/H, excl. VAT).
It was stated clearly: 1 SCARLET X body, Side SSD, Canon EF mount.
Anything else you may want, you buy - as usual - from the RED store.

To put the waiting in perspective... I waited years for my red1... from it was a website with a logo... months for for my epic....
So if this good deal on scarlets has a few weeks lead time its pretty impressive.

If you order a set of Cooke lenses and pay the 20% you are looking at around 3 years before delivering.

I don't know...according to an earlier post anyone who sells their Scarlet is a dirtbag. Wait....doesn't RED sell Scarlets? So confused about the rules....perhaps the person who posted about dirtbags will let us know who is allowed to sell their camera and, if so, under what circumstances.

I'm still waiting for one of you to change your mind...

You're only a dirtbag if you bought one of these $7100 BT Scarlets with the sole intention of selling it at a premium. Like those douchebags that buy consoles/iphones/latest-trend at launch knowing they can flip them on eBay for more than retail. I mean, don't get me wrong, if you didn't realize how much is involved with owning/operating RED, it'd be difficult to turn down "free" money. However if you expressly bought one of these to flip, it's easy to see why the people who actually want one (but didn't order in time) would think you're a bit of a dick.

The worst part about the resale of these BT-Ss is that, if you do decide to bail out after receiving it (regardless of the reason), the person buying from you is forced to pay RED $850 for the ownership transfer fee/90-day warranty and doesn't have the option for RED armour (which is a lose-lose for those secondary buyers).

But Mike, I bought one of these bad boys, even though I place the order several days after the link was posted. Why did it take these guys so long to make a decision.

You snooze you loose. I don't think anyone who got one really thought that they could flip it when they bought it. I bought it, because I'm going to need it. However I could have waited a few months but this offer was too good to pass up. I've been slow in paying so that others with greater need can get theirs faster.

Weird I thought I walked into that other (release pending) camera forum.

I see the buyer-resellers as filling a need. For the ones who hadn't heard about the Great BT Scarlet event whether through complacency or just otherwise occupied, the resellers are sort of just holding them a place in line for a fee. Nothing dishonorable in that IMO.

This `business practice´ might qualify as `bad attitude´ - at least in my book of RED.

Everyone has differing emotional thresholds. Not saying yours is right or wrong, just different from mine.

And by the way... I don't remember reading a post in this thread where any one is offering to sell their BTScarlet. All I've seen so far are people asking for someone to sell them a Scarlet. Where do they fall in the dirtbag graph?

Absolutely agreed. That´s why I can´t even sell my old stuff to my friends (unless they insist), because I´d have to tell them that this would not be the best they could get :)
I sometimes wish I had a better business mind ...
