Scarlet Deal of a Lifetime

I hear you. I hear stores buy the products they sell for less money than what they charge me for the same products! What dirtbags! What should we call that? Oh yeah, capitalism.

Hah there's already people trying to sell their BT Scarlets and turn a profit. Why didn't I think of that? Oh yeah, because I'm not a dirtbag.

Just don't choose DHL if you're buying outside of USA. DHL is the worst shipping company!

Anyone received the baby yet? Europe here takes a bit longer but thats understandable. Still it should be home by the end of next week.

Ours arrives tomorrow just in time for a quick unboxing, a slice of birthday cake, then it's off to shoot a film!

Speaking about that bullet time shot again, if I remember correctly, they used a bunch of still cameras in sync (no motion), on a green screen and a software that interpolates between frames to produce that all around effect, then they added the cg bullets and background later..

Ah yes thankyou, this is what I mean that theres no need for an EPIC, a scarlet would do just as well as its usually been done with stills cameras in the past, so a scarlet is kinda overkill already!

However, if all the scarlets were run at say 12fps with timecode locked in sync, then presumably it might be possible to extract the bullet time, not from a single moment, but from any moment the cameras were recording. Might be a bit of a nightmare with all that data in post but at least you would know that you couldn't possibly miss the shot if it was a one take kinda thing for instance.

Actually the greeen screen is an optional extra! It will work with real world backdrops too! Also it's more of a low budget thing to try and interpolate frames. On big productions they just have lots and lots of cameras so they don't need to generate the missing frames. I guess it might be easier to do the fake interpolate version with green screen tho.

After registering for Reduser over 5 years ago I've finally got around to that tricky first post. I've been dropping by this site to catch up on RED news every now and then, fortunately for me I dropped by earlier this week.

Just in time I managed to take advantage of the offer and now I'm patiently waiting to receive my Scarlet at the end of next week (UK).

My thanks go to RED for this offer!

Maybe there were 72 cameras? One camera per frame in a 3-second (3x24fps) shot? This is assuming a lot of things about the shot though.

well if there was 75 and only 72 were used then some lucky guys will have a non used camera :)

ha ha thanks and welcome!

I hope one day we find out exactly what this crazy shot was. Maybe I'll end up putting my new scarlet in a glass case in my front room.

Thank you RED.

as happy as i am to see other people already received theirs.....
i already had funds for a scarlet kit in my red account last week, ready to pick up early this week to get ready for a shoot this weekend....while trying to figure out what to get (accessories, media,....), i came across this thread sunday night at around 8pm...needless to say i clicked the link....bought the brain, saved quite a bit! super happy!
except.... that it is friday...i haven't even received a shipping confirmation....i had to cancel my shoot for the weekend....
i am based in LA, was actually looking forward to picking up in irvine, especially after going to the RED retail store a couple of times, meeting the great people there and getting a good idea of what i would need/want.....i was told that pick up would delay my order, (so that was out) and the latest i have heard is that HOPEFULLY i will get my kit next week....hopefully....
again, i am really happy for all the people who already received their new baby but it is a little strange to hear that people in korea and florida who ordered AFTER i did already received it and mine hasn't even shipped? or i can't pick one up?
like i said, my first experience with RED was at the store and it could not have been better....i am also pretty sure that this is not my rep's fault (why would it?)....just leaves a bad taste....

only a weeks wait? thats great welcome to the forum:)

Just joking, but you have to understand that people here have waited several months for cameras and other stuff. It's kind of how it works. Red staff also stated here in this thread that the deliveries will take time since those cameras are all going in for a inspection before shipped... but on little advice is not to count on anything until you got it in your hand and tested it and found that it worked to your satisfaction. RED gives out information, early on in their production process, delivery schedules and web shop. See it as a good thing, but do not count on it..

don't get me wrong.....if i would have made my mind up 1 day earlier (friday) i would have a scarlet but a lot less cash for lenses and other fun stuff.....so i am not complaining....i also understand that a lot of cameras have to go through quality control and such.....so i understand that i have to wait for a while....
but orders placed first should ship first.....especially since i had paid before i even placed the order....

Thanks, Björn, for this comment. I know I have said it every few pages in this thread (or at least is seems like it, haha), but this is a pretty intense process on our end. We had a sudden influx of cameras coming back to us that needed to be received, inventoried, inspection, put through full QC process (matter of many hours, not minutes), re-packaging, re-stocking. After all that, THEN order processing can begin.

Of top of an influx of cameras, there were all the emails/orders/voicemails from customers. Many of you are new additions to the RED family who wanted to be walked through accessory choices, etc. Again, after that, order processing can begin.

So, we are going as fast as we can. We have to do all of above while still doing everything we were already doing. We cannot shut down/ignore other areas of the business to handle this spike. Sure, we can bring in more people and work overtime, but QC requires custom fixtures that we cannot snap our fingers and have them available to us.

What does this all mean? Well, we are stoked we could offer up this amazing SCARLET battle-tested deal. But every action has a reaction ripple effect. So, please be patient with response times and with order processing times. Not trying to make excuses here, just stating the simple facts.

Yes, orders are already going out the door - but we have a pipe only so much can go through daily so the entire process will take a little time to get all these bad boys out the door and in your hands. I think each one will be worth the little extra wait :)
