  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Should have been more clear, sorry. I was talking about the Scarlet Dragon Owner package, which is $12,000.

Take -$2000 for just the brain, +10,000 for Epic upgrade, then + $5,050 for the accessories again, -$1000 for already paid deposit. That's $24,050, when I was looking for it to be more like $21,000. So I mathed wrong again when looking at it, lol. So the $3,050 more was right.

If we have he 6k Magnesium Weapon now will we be able to do an 8k upgrade at that time as well?

That is kind of a bummer that you'd lose out on the Dragon upgrade discount, considering that was kind of a loyalty perk of being a past owner. Without it, you're just among the ranks of us non-owners.

And technically, it sounds like anyone who puts in a Scarlet-W order before Oct 11th is eligible for the $20k Epic-W body price, which is kind of strange. New orders won't get front-of-the-line priority, of course, but that's still a hefty discount for jumping on so late. But hey, I suppose that's a perk of being active on the forums! If anyone can preorder a Scarlet-W and switch to Epic-W for a $20k total, I have to imagine that every other upgrade option is cheaper than $20k..

We really fucked up with the launch of Scarlet-W.

We underestimated the demand and broke our machine scrambling to keep up.

It's embarrassing.

This is our way of saying sorry.

This will be a short term thing that will come and go and I need to be clear.. this isn't how we will do business going forward... because that's not a sustainable business. I'm sure there will be people that will still get hurt feelings because of whatever situation they are in or because they didn't get taken care of in the same way but those people just need to look away for a little bit while we make things right. Our upgrade programs have always been generous and you can't equate this and that together because they are two very different programs.

I'm sure Raven and SW caught you guys by surprise. Has to be the biggest selling Red cameras ever.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that the gesture is greatly appreciated. I'm definitely considering the upgrade because I couldn't originally justify the investment of a Weapon but this upgrade offer brings the latest and greatest within reach. I was eagerly awaiting the Scarlet's successor and placed my Scarlet-W order immediately upon seeing the announcement. I already have October 11th marked on my calendar.

I'm very excited to see what's coming down the pike... Happy that I get the opportunity to hop aboard :)
 
As another first timer, I just appreciate the transparency straight from the top.

It's been a long wait, but there is actually nothing else out there that I'd rather be shooting on.

Excited to see what happens and have already spoken to my rep about Oct 11, thanks for keeping us informed.
 
I'd be curious to know if a January timestamp would receive the Epic-W faster than the Scarlet-W? I was under the impression that those who stayed behind would see much faster allocations, particularly in October.

Jarred, will the Epic-W 8K be S35?
Will the Epic-W body & Weapon 8K S35 Body look the same?
 
Would it be better to sell my Weapon 6K MG and deposit a Scarlet-W to get the Epic-W for less than if upgrading from Weapon 6K MG or will there be some good deals for the MG owners who get economically bypassed by Scarlet-W deposit orders? Would be good to know the options before Oct 11.

Maybe we all need to just put in the deposit for scarlet-w just to be sure.

Yes. It would be cool to know all the options before Oct 11. I am scratching my head, I have already a Weapon 6K MG upgrade on order. And the Weapon 6K MG upgrade is a very good deal.

RED (Jarred) have good reasons for the announcement October 11. We have to wait.
Maybe Jarred will spill some more information before. hehehe

Yeah, because it's gonna be too late to do any Scarlet-W deposits when the actual list of upgrade options shows up, so it's impossible to know how to prepare for this.

The reason for the low price upgrade to Epic-W for Scarlet-W owners comes from Red acknowledging that they messed up those orders, but in doing so they mess up for people who put down a lot more for MG, so there better be some good deals for MG owners and if the upgrade prices are closer to what Scarlet-W owners get then it's just a newly created mess against MG owners. If Red wants to make Scarlet-W preorders happy with all these deals, then why at the expense of MG owners who were loyal enough to put out big money last November?

- All the info that's been presented in this thread tells that Scarlet-Ws get all the love while MGs might get some leftover treats. People argue that MG owners had their camera while Scarlet-Ws are waiting, but the MGs cost a lot of money and by handing out Epic-W upgrades for a fraction of what MGs have had to put out only creates a new group of Red owners who get's messed up. So the loyal Red owners who jumped the ship back when we were told our Epics and Scarlets were EOL soon, or be super expensive to upgrade, may we get the high end Helium for a similar fraction of the upgrade as Scarlet-Ws do? Or will that just shift the mess over to CF owners then? Cause we who ordered the MGs had to wait almost six months for our MG, how's that different from the slightly longer time Scarlet-W owners had to wait? Especially when some cameras weren't even accessory ready by the time of shipping.

It will be interesting to see the fallout of these upgrades. Will everyone feel happy about it or will the mess of not being able to ship Scarlet-Ws in time just be handed over to MG owners getting bypassed by the fraction of upgrade costs that Scarlet-W owners get. Just switching out one mess for another doesn't seem to be right. It's easy for Scarlet-W owners to cheer about all these news, but us MG owners aren't cheering yet, we have no information at all that points to any benefits of us jumping on the MG wagon back in November.

I'm sure they are cooking something up for all existing owners too.
For RED as a company it also makes sense to have the majority of the current owners be at a newer model.
Sales in accesories wil rise, more people are eligable for upgrades in the future.
Jarred said this isn't how they will do buisness in the future. Maybe they will take a hit now but I'm sure this will make the brand stronger.
