  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Amen. This is a gem of an idea if there is an abundance of helium sensors. I'd take a stab at a 5k helium sensor if it was possible to do it - pay a bit for the 6k helium sensor locked to 5k and maybe it means not too many changes in the box to make it work - I'm not an engineer I don't know if this is even possible but it sounds cool. There's a few guys saying that they are dec 12 and no camera, so if I could pay $2k and get a 5k helium sensor AND get my camera within 15 days I'd transfer the money over as soon as the quote hit my email. Early January order here and I'm seriously starting to wonder if I'll be opening Christmas presents before the ups guy knocks on the door with my camera.

Are you guys aware of what the actual size a 5k helium would be? Definitely not for me.

Well, not really. If you bought an SXT Arri gave you the option to take an XT and send it in as an upgrade to SXT once they were available. So yes, they didn't give you the camera you bought, but they gave you the best camera in their lineup to hold you over until yours got there. It's like if RED sent out an epic dragon to everyone who bought an S-W and then you sent it back when you were allocated, they did loaners at the start to a select few but arri said this is your XT, when we're ready to turn it into an SXT we'll give you a call. There's a big difference between having a pro camera to shoot on and making money with it while they make you wait for two years and not having anything in your hands to work with. Not that I would ever buy an Arri but it's not accurate to say they just said "sit there, shut up and wait".

Hmmm, many people are (logically) happy with the past few updates... But I'm still hoping I'll be allocated for my beloved Scarlet-W before 2017 arrives. Ordered in March...

Well, also lets put it in perspective, how much would you have paid as down payment on SXT for Arri to give you option of XT. When you say "gave you the best camera in their lineup to hold you over until yours got there"of course, what in fr***kin hell do you expect after forking out minimum $82k (for BASIC set)? Well I tell you what. Give RED $82k for VV and lets see if you don't get Stormtrooper to hold you over. Its just f**kn unfair for you to make that comparision. Cash is hard and waiting is a bitch but what you are comparing is not FAIR. The cash deposit is $1k and a promise from Red to deliver on a time frame. Yes it does affact people's income, but you could have gotten a full working Scarlet-MX for (really) cheap to hold you over and I bet you recover the cost over a 12 month cycle (perhaps I am wrong there) but your analogy is stiil not FAIR!!!

On the brighter side, lets hope you got a fast mouse click on the 11th, all this wait will melt away once you get your baby. Trust me:drool:

That is wrong my Alessandro. That is not how the deal worked. Arri made you pay FULL PRICE for the SXT and they let you borrow an XT while you waited.

Would it be smart to buy a used Sony fs700 or something alike for someone who only has a Blackmagic Cinema Camera? And sell it later on...
It's not the wait that is the problem... It's the fact nobody knows anything about when... It van be this year, it can be the next...

To buy something you going to use for a couple of months and you already have a BM. Why? If you need for a shoot something else than the BM just rent it and make sure you calculate that in your price for that project.
 
RED should build a web page that you select which camera you own - and then it presents any/all upgrade options. Like the "BUILD YOUR CAMERA" - they should make a "UPGRADE YOUR CAMERA" - there seems to LOTS of options .....

+1, the flash sale of Oct 11th will be the price options to be there initially at launch and after the proposed cutoff, the price goes to the normal upgrade prices
 
I love it when Jarred lets the hints slip out but then again they present so many questions.

The biggest thing I'm wondering about now is the hierarchy of this line-up.

I'd have thought that Helium being 8K would mean that the Epic-W had to have the more powerful processor of the Weapon 6K CF, rather than that of the Weapon 6K Mg. But that would put it *above* some of the Weapons in the hierarchy *and* perhaps right next to Weapon Helium (perhaps: Raven > Scarlet-W > Weapon 6K Mg > Weapon 6K CF > Epic-W > Weapon 8K Helium > Weapon 8K VV ?).

But that can't be right because then why would you need both Helium variants? And you wouldn't want to split the Weapons. There must be some major feature differentiation between all Weapons and all non-Weapons such that it goes Raven > Scarlet-W > Epic-W > Weapon 6K Mg > Weapon 6K CF > Weapon 8K Helium > Weapon 8K VV right? Can't wait until Jarred drops the next hint on what that might be...

Also, is 6K CF only there as a stepping stone / placeholder until 8K VV ramps up? Will that option fade away?

Now I ask money to my client for my BM, that goes to my pocket. If I rent, the money goes to the rental company.
If I buy I can also use it for my own projects...

I dunno.. if they did that we would be waiting forever.. the great thing about reduser, and staying involved is we know the deals..
