  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TRUST ME, it will be a heckuva lot clearer out of the gate compared to NAB 2015 : )

Jarred / Brent: For those of us who preordered the S-W package, if we choose to take advantage of the E-W offer - and I plan to! - how does the accessory package transfer over? I was very happy to have gotten in before the packages were all dropped. Will it be as simple as "pay the difference and the UPS guy brings you an E-W brain in place of an S-W", or should I expect to have to piecemeal the whole package back together?

Thanks for listening to your customers and truly caring as much as y'all do. It's a rare thing these days. :)

Take that question, and add "Scarlet Dragon owners" too please! Just add $10,000 to our package?

If Helium is truly a whole new sensor design (as they've said that it is) then I imagine that to be truly optimal it will require a new OLPF. The OLPFs have improved each and every time. Yes, each one opens up new possibilities and locks you into certain ISO ranges. But the standard is by far the (current) best and with reports of green cast (like the Skin-tone on Dragon) from the standard on Helium I imagine that the October release (or sometime after?) Will introduce a OLPF designed around these new pixels. Also a new version of the color science (HeliumColor as opposed to DragonColor2) and maybe a RedGamma5? (4 is too crunchy if you ask me, could be pulled back a tad). Also in regards to Panavision I imagine that it is impossible to truly say yes or no. If I had to put my $$ down I would say absolutely not.

With DSMC2 we separated the pixel specific low pass bits from the changeable OLPF and put them on the sensor glass for this very reason, so you can use existing OLPFs with Helium sensors without having pixel pitch errors.

Helium is incredibly more accurate in terms of color and has a much, much finer "starting point". The color variations you may be seeing are because everyone is actually using Dragon color science on the Helium right now, which amazingly still looks incredible which is a testament to just how much work Graeme and the Sensor team have worked together to create something really phenomenal. Again the power of REDCODE.

I can't wait till you all see the new Helium color science.

Loving all the little "bonus bits" about the improvements made with the DSMC2 architecture that we keep discovering.

The helium sensor in all flavors of bodies that it will reside in is an amazing piece of tech. I was literally floored with how unbelievably clean that sensor is....it just oozes goodness from every pixel. It produced a feeling inside that I haven't experienced since I first took possession of my Epic several years ago.

Helium will def'n be in my future...albeit a long future ahead, but that's where I want to be.

Did I hear correctly that the Helium will available for new purchases in October?
