  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Arghh! I hate the internet! :) I looked at one point ... nothing from Jarred or any comments, looked about an hour later and i've missed all the action!!!

Mind you @Wil Wong's comment about its 'AWESOME'ness means it must be something good to look forward to :)

It said something about Epic-W having Helium DNA... Now we just need to interpret what DNA means...
(dont remember what else it said... Dont want to quote him and be wrong)
 
And that Epic-MX and Epic-D will have an upgrade path to Epic-W, which is DSMC2 will have Helium DNA.

EDIT: I could be wrong about the Epic-MX but don't think I am. Barely glanced at the thread and thought "hehe, Jarred" before getting back to work.

Sorry don't want to get Jarred in trouble with Brent more than he is...

But we know Epic-W will for sure be a thing (no specs mentioned though) and that it will have Helium DNA. I would stay close to reduser until Brent hits the cellular dead zone wherever he is vacationing.

A couple of Questions for you.




Will the cut off to upgrade from Epic Dragon to Weapon MG be before the October announcement?


To ask the same thing a slightly different way. Will we have to have committed to an upgrade to Weapon before the announcement in October in order to go to Helium 8K.


If the option to upgrade extends past the announcement will we be able to go to Weapon + Helium in one upgrade?


If so what will that combined upgrade cost be compared to past upgrades? If we go by past and current info then an Epic X owner would pay $14,500 (weapon mg)+ $9500(Helium)=$24000 Will the price be higher or lower than this guesstimate (no you can’t bid one dollar like The Price is Right :-) )?


Will Weapon MG Helium be hindered compared to CF Helium (less high speed options, more compression)?


Will it cost more to upgrade MG compared to CF to Helium or will it be like past upgrades that cost the same regardless of what the camera is made of?




I know these questions may not be answerable and sort of overlap in some ways depending on how things shake out. I just don’t won’t to be left on the sideline to get 8K Helium. I realize Epic Weapon may change things as well. Oct is coming fast and i know more than a few of us want to plan accordingly. Thanks again for blazing the way. I can’t wait to try pulling some 8k Stills!

Maybe the Epic-W is what I was kind of joking about earlier: That Helium is a new sensor-making process and the S35 8K Weapons are kind of a test of pixel density with that process. Then they'll go back to their traditional sensor size, but with slightly higher resolutions? So like a 7K Epic-W that has the same sensor size as the 6K Dragon sensor (which was the same sensor size as the 5K Epic... right?)
 
Hi Jarred, i preorder my scarlet w and I am almost getting it, but I would like to know about The epic W, if The diference in price is not too Big I would go for The epic W with new sensor. I would be very sad if my scarlet W arrived and and a few weeks after a new epic W was anounced for 15k brain. And The upgrade path for The scarlet how is that going to work. I am investing in your camera and I would like to get The best I can aford for. Btw keep up The awesome work ;)

I'm in the same boat, stoked about my soon to be SW but want a crack at Epic-W. I always told the SW folks that Jered won't let us hang, after all, this is an eerily similar situation we are in now as the Raven'rs when SW was announced. But I can't help but feel like Jared was burned and doesn't want to deal with Epic-W and SW transfers and deal with blow back and backlash again. I'm making some assumptions here but Red works hard to make it right for all of us.

You guys know the deposits are refundable right? So.... if something is announced soon and the pricing is enticing enough just ask the funds be moved to the new order. If not be happy with your Scarlet-W's?

I know that, but I think my scarlet will arrive before The october anouncement.
