  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I think it will be available much sooner than that. I think that is part of the point right? They are having some problems cranking out enough sensors (Dragon) to meet the demand. IF, this Helium wafer is easier to make...it will, A.) Free up some of the backlog for Dragon Sensors, because people will switch their orders, and B.) will be a faster assembly line because they will have less trouble producing them? Who the hell knows?

Haha, I was just going to post the same thing. I'm interested to see what the specs are... I personally couldn't justify buying a Weapon with the majority of projects I do... but if the Epic-W fits somewhere between Scarlet-W and Weapon, price-wise, I'd be mighty tempted.

Any Scarlet-W allocations? I see the Raven guys finally made it to day two hehe.

Hopefully! If so it might mean Scarlet-W orders are getting started on day one at long last.

They definitely are not fulfilling "Day One" Scarlet-W orders yet.

I am a Raven I/O switcher with a September 30th timestamp and have not been allocated.

Seriously? That means that they're a lot farther behind than it seemed.
 
Some large roadblock must have happened with scarlet-w production as the optimism in shipping dates that held up early on seems to have shifted. It does feel (key focus on the word feel here) a little strange that there's been so much other RED news, new sensor, DXL, and custom cameras coming out, but not real movement on the mountain of orders.
 
Remember "after that we will hit you with the same vengeance Scar-W orders" Where is the vengeance. I say we should have our own Scarlet only month, like Ravens did.
 
Even with a "Raven month", I am a Sep 29th preorder of Raven and still nothing here. Plenty of people who went third party have cameras though, name of the game I suppose. It's definitely frustrating but something must be going on behind the scenes that we aren't seeing or hearing. I give up checking back here because no news is changing except new cameras and new sensors and new accessories. It sucks, at this rate, being part-time military, I have to go over seas for a few months come fall and if I don't have the camera by then, I won't even be around to accept an allocation.

the blackshading calibration adjusts every pixel before it gets recorded? ..so its not raw ?

you are confused . every single DSLR camera that shoots raw, processes that raw before it gets saved, whether it is dead pixel removal, or other camera specific adjustments ..

so none of them are raw?

sounds like you need to go build a raw camera and show everyone how to do it .. or convince everyone to change their definition of raw ..

Lossy Wavelet works by getting rid of signal as well to get higher compression ratios. If they have a mode that just deals with noise, which I have long advocated before Red was, then that would.be good.

Technically Raw includes the noise, but it is not part of the image. Technically it would be useful to talk about raw sensor data versus Raw (actual) image. But when you deal with noise, what do you replace it with. You are bound to get inaccuracies in the noise restoration among the pixels, so you may not get the Raw actual image, but a processed image. Raw sensor data, for all it's inaccuracies, is what we got. Noise might be able to post processed more reliably, but that same process could be done in camera.

I have certainly written enough about time domain noise removal and recording for a higher compression result with a more authentic image in cinema camera projects. , I had either Steve from SI or David Newman arguing against me, long before Red, as Jim and Graeme would know, because Red sprang out of those efforts.

No straight Scarlet-W orders have been allocated.

They have not even began Scarlet-D upgraders yet so anyone with a straight S-W order will most likely be waiting a long time.

Luckily I will be able to switch to Epic-W. I hope!!!
