No you are not...you have the post counter on this thing tied to an alarm clock...don't deny it...

Wait, what do you mean "do it in post"? I really hope you don't mean stretching out clips for fake slomo. that's nasty, dude.I like having high frame rates on my Epic MX. But, I don't go ove 72fps most of the time. 48 is where I usually like to go. So, I plan to move to the Epic W. If I need higher fps, I can just do it in post. Not my first choice. But, I really like how the Helium digs into the shadows.
please don't say twixtor, hahaThere are other options.

Haha fair enough. I think I'm keeping my FS7, so I suppose 4K 60 and 1080p 180fps will have to do, if the project calls for it.I haven't been an editor for ages. But, I am sure there has to be something out there that can do a decent job. If not, I will just have to break out the MX for slo-mo.
Hey Kronos 'aint bad!
But really, in camera ftw. Yeah if I really had to find a con to E-W vs S-W it would be the "minimal crop hi speed". Heck I'd be thrilled with 48fps @ ~7-8k.
In reality, I've always had to crop for ultra hi speed (R1, S-X) so I guess I'm used to that inconvenience. On the bright side, Toia's 400x (!!!) crop looked fantastic, so at least it 'ain't introducing a ton of grain like the Mysterium sensors do!
Jarred... care to, erm, chime in on FPS options?![]()
Any Scarlet-W guys worried about giving up high frame rates? ?
I absolutely wonder about pushback with 8k. Very happy to see the 4K prores option, given that a lot of productions are pretty Amira heavy where I am I think that'll give rental / owner-op opportunities an edge. I do end up cutting a lot of what I shoot, so the more pressing question, personally, is how many red mags and solid state drives am I going to need to buy and how to keep all that data archived...
I'm hanging on to hope that this wasn't lost on the RED engineers when discussing the ramifications of going 8k, and the big oct. 11 killer feature will be finally allowing in-camera sampling to a 1/2 res flavor of red code.
Not going to do a 1/2 res flavor of REDCODE. That goes against the whole concept of raw. You lose the ability to control the debayer and the image quality from pixel binning is less than optimal. You are better off just shooting a flat scaled DNX or ProRes RGB file.
Any Scarlet-W guys worried about giving up high frame rates? I know I'll probably end up going Epic-W because it's been 10 months since I ordered and I'd rather have a camera sooner... but man, 4K 120fps with relatively minor crop sounds reeeeeeal good. I was getting excited to double my FS7's 4K frame rate, but now it's looking like I'd have to rely on the FS7 for almost anything above 30fps unless I'm cool with mega-crop.
What are your thoughts?
I'll admit, its the first time in my life I've been willing to drop 20 large on a camera I've never seen an image from haha.
