  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ah, see, now the whole naming things makes perfect sense! The name "Weapon" is tied to every DSMC2 camera (except the Raven) and the name "Epic" has migrated from Dragon association to the cutting edge Helium.

This is a very streamlined line up! I love it! Well done RED team!
 
Good god, I spent a week on a volcano shooting my helium and all hell has broken loose. I've gone back over a 100 pages trying to figure out what the heck has happen. Has anyone made a cheat sheet or is there a page # with Jarred's magical post? and was there any indication of hope for us CF guys in line for a vista?

Jarred has just sprinkled leaks and surpises throughout those 100 pages. Most of it pertaining to Epic-W
 
So where can I find a summary of the update deals?

Either or. Do the SCARLET DRAGON owner deal for SCARLET-W package when your number is called or switch up to EPIC-W.

Since there was no path from standard EPIC M-X to SCARLET-W, I would not plan on that. And, as Jarred said, a potential monochrome HELIUM is a ways away…
 
BRENT.. whats gonna be a faster move.... having a preorder in on SW and upgrading or trading in my SW for the upgrade? Just a small answer would make a huge difference in how to prepare in the next few days.
 
wonder what weight and size of Epic-W will be? I think those who are in are in regardless

I have mentioned earlier that people without cameras in hand (SCARLET-W deposit holders) will have priority over those with cameras (SCARLET-W owners)...

A lot of the bigger Producers don't have time to learn the details. Usually they will say to "rent a RED", or " EPIC " and more recently " Weapon " Or they will say 4K or 6K or 8K... kinda like they would of said 8mm or 16mm or 35mm. Dragon or Helium to them will be more like choosing a film stock, after they choose the path, and remember they pay you to know and to help them with that so we are trying to make it easier for everyone.

I have an S-W already but this is probably good for me as I need the Epic-W to go onto 2017 tax year (too many write offs this year), so after January 1st.

If I need it to ship after Jan 1, should I wait a few days before I place my Epic-W order? Or if my number comes up in the cue before January 1st, can I stagger my payment and delivery to very start of 2017?

So once Helium color science is rolled out how will it play with Dragon color? They playing well together out of the gate so mixing gimbal shots on RAVEN and Epic-W shots will be relatively painless? BTW RED is killing it and Brent and Jarred's commitment to supporting the customer is bar none!!! Huge reason I chose RED. This thread may be at 1011 pages by 10/11 at this rate.
 
You know, I really have a wish.

I really wish there's a Weapon Camera that doesn't do prores and could keep the frame rates of the Helium.
I know many users need prores. But I also know that there are a lot of users like me, that have a Red Camera, love the R3D workflow, and really doesn't need Prores. Having both is nice, but we know it comes with a price.

For me, the dream would be a Weapon Helium specced, no prores, no carbon version DSMC2,where the money we could save from the body we could apply on the required media, batteries, monitors, side handles, mounts...

Its really a big deal for me, upgrading my Epic Dragon. I really need to do the option that really makes more sense in the long run. I need the versatility of the frame rates of the Dragon, the groundbreaking resolution, the fantastic colors and flexibility in post of R3D's in my next Red camera. I know this camera exists in the form of the Stormtrooper Helium, which will become the Weapon Helium. I really wish I can upgrade to that, or a version of it without prores, which really doesn't add anything for me creatively at all.

Going Red for me is more of an artistic, personal and creative choice, a "getting the best brush to express myself" decision. My work benefited greatly with it, the results fantastic, the financial returns not so much due to the nature and characteristics of where I am. But I knew it since the beginning. I really hope to be able to keep doing this on the next groundbreaking step of Red cameras! Can't wait for the 11th!

Ha, yes, don't place your order on Oct 11. But don't wait TOO long...

I mean, it always made sense to me that producers have too many things to worry about to learn the details on things like this, but the part I haven't really figured out is why then they're not leaving the camera decision to someone who does.
