The Update Thread

Thanks guys! Yeah, I've only owned a Scarlet-X and the low light wasn't great. I've heard Dragon was a huge improvement, but if it gets even better I'm very excited

I guess I've been living under a rock. Am I correct that Jarred is offering a trade-in for Red Ones to Weapon 8K camera? Something about no RED owner left behind. If true, that is unprecedented. That's a nearly decade old camera (which I still use). I need to pay more attention, I'm falling behind on RED news. :-)

guys, part of the fun and spirit of this thread is looking forward to little hints and treats for us to get pumped and think about. its kinda turning into nit picking, and over analyzing, and pushing for as much info as possible. imo this makes the whole experience lame. they have told us so much, teased pictures, and have already said we will know well ahead of October 11th.. keep it together, im sure we will know EVERYTHING soon... don't ruin it..

also after thinking about it more.. the Scarlet-w Package is a great deal for an AMAZING camera that is not available to the public anymore. if you stay this path you can't go wrong.

At the same time the opportunity to switch to Epic-W is ALSO INCREDIBLE and will not be available for very long. (until the next announcement, as SW is "future proof")

either way the fact that we as redusers have access to this information is special. there is nothing "Unfair" in that. be thankful.

Could not agree more with this.

Well said Matt!... let the hype train continue! "Choooo Choooo" ;-)

This thread is intense...no time to read it all unfortunately. However as a dsmc1 red dragon owner can someone tell me what I should do to get an Epic W helium? I heard about an upgrade but can't see it on the Red store.

Thanks guys

Will have to wait till OCT 11th to know all the details. And its probably when its going live on the store.

The Hype about OCT 11 is similar to the introduction of EPIC. It was a very long night ;-)

Now I am waiting to get my Weapon MG upgrade. But I am also very excited about OCT 11. I hope to make the jump to Weapon Helium.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Mark is coming from DSMC1. As such his comparison is skipping a generation, which may equate to a far greater increase in perceived improvement. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) a ton of direct comparisons in the upcoming week or so.

DSMC1 Dragon cameras have the same exact sensor as the Weapons... no skipping of generations there.
And from what I have seen, Helium is much better in low light situations than Dragon.

I agree with all of this except one thing :Asking questions isn't ruin anything. In fact, everyone's questions that may or may not be answered prior to oct 11th gives the RED team a good insight to what to expect during the launch as far as fielding questions. If they are asked respectfully and in a non pushy manner, what's the harm? Let the imaginations and pondering be. At the end of the day, if you're saying to just wait until oct. 11th and if RED was in agreeance with that, they'd just shut down the thread. The questions, speculations, and etc help the process. Sure you have the few that cross the line, though let's not toss the baby out with the bath water.

keep in mind that $10k on top of what some of us s-w owners have already invested isn't a drop in the bucket. I know personally of a handful of s-w hustling their butts off now to come up with the $10k, BEFORE anything official has been released. That is their/our faith in RED. We ain't tire kicking ;).

Again, all the teases, "leaks", and info given is truly appreciated. It's part of the fun to ask a question and POSSIBLY have it answered. I've asked 3 questions that haven't been touched on and it clues me in that They are much a launch questions. Others have asked logistical questions and have had them cleared up. Thank goodness for Brent's patience and for Jarred's itchy Facebook and forum posting fingers :). Cheers

Again, I totally agree with this. What I don't agree with is the entitlement comments about how something isn't fair...and that is what I got out of Matthew Quinn's don't ruin it comment.

From that perspective, totally.

Now that peeps have gone through the stretching exercise to free up the extra $10k for the Epic-W... it would be so easy to just put that down for a 2nd Scarlet and have two cameras.

Sorry Jarred. Sorry Brent. But the Scarlet-W line may just get a little bit longer. haha

I am strongly considering it myself right now.

What I would LOVE to see or get my hands on
is a R3D file at 8k from a Helium camera.
With all the discussion about crop, frame rate and
especially data, it would be great to have
a test file to run through my system.
We could compare how our systems will handle the
extra data rates.
Im editing a short I DP'd on my Mac Pro in FCPx
in 4K. Breezes right through it no problem at all.

Anyone willing to share a file???
