Epic Dragon and Weapon both have "Dragon" on the side SSD, Sensor name. However, Raven and Epic-W have camera name on the side SSD. Is RED moving from sensor name to camera name on the side SSD? It makes for easier identification of cameras than having generic sensor name on the side across different types of cameras

I think that makes more sense cause I have a feeling that there wont be any more carbon fiber body's, so to differentiate an Epic-W from a Helium Weapon its written boldly on the side of the brain.

Yeah, remember a producer that told me there's no technical difference between Weapon and Epic Dragon, because the Weapon has the Dragon label on the side, infact he did refer to Epic Dragon as the "original Dragon" especially since the general moniker everyone (here in my country) use for Epic Dragon was simply "Dragon". Camera name on the side certainly helps a lot with identifying the tool easier. Question is if there's enough space to write out Weapon VV or Weapon S35 on the side of the 8k Weapons

Haha, cant imagine what he's gonna say when there is an Epic-W on set.

Can't wait to see if the Scarlet W (package) to Epic W upgrade will come with EF or PL as a standard mount.

This point has been a little confusing to me, but I THINK if you switch from the SW package to EW you forfit the package and it's savings. But I could be wrong here.

I too am very interested in knowing at least some details of the DSMC1 deal, hopefully before Oct 11. I'm torn on whether there's any benefit at all to putting in a MG deposit now (and waiting) or just standing pat with the original Dragon.

Brent, perhaps you can simply offer us DSMC1 Dragon owners an opinion on what you would do in this case? Apologies if you've already done so.

If I was starting fresh and i wanted the BASIC LOW COST way to get the camera up and shooting i would go something like:

Media ($2,450) http://www.red.com/store/products/red-mini-mag

v-mount mod, no I/O ($595) http://www.red.com/store/products/dsmc2-vlock-battery-module

canon moount ($700) http://www.red.com/store/products/dsmc-canon-lens-mount

used 5" touch ($1,200-$1,400)

OR 7" hingeless pro touch ($2,950) http://www.red.com/store/products/red-pro-touch-7-inch-lcd

WC Lemo adapter + cord ($205) http://woodencamera.com/RED/New-Rel...-lcd-evf-cable-12-weapon-scarlet-w-raven.html

simple battery package ($550)

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...=Retail&utm_term=Two-DUO-95-V-Mount-Batteries

if you got the 7" that would amount to: $6,750 which is slightly more expensive than reds "Base Package", doesn't have the Base expander for I/O, but it gets you the media, and gets the camera up and running. if you go for some used pieces, like a 5" touch. its gets the price closer to $5k

the next step would be to get a base I/O mod or something similar for I/O

From history, mount isn't usually part of the upgrade or discount. Mount usually carries over, meaning if your original S-W order is in EF then your upgrade comes in that, otherwise if its PL. Remember, the deal is always on the brain. The only exception RED has ever given is the trade-in offer on the 1.8 mags for mini mag, which was offered as a one-on-one one time trade-in

thats right, they do honor 1.8 mags in the form of a $900 credit towards 512gb mini mags or 1 tb mini mags i believe (no credit for 120, or 240GB ones)

Watch out, you might want to go for 2 x 120gb mags instead of 1 x 512gb to avoid downtime during transfers
secondly why buy used 5" touch at ($1,200-$1,400) when new 4.7 is $1,450 http://www.red.com/store/products/dsmc2-red-touch-47inch-lcd unless of course, you get used bargain at $900 - $1,100

if i was going epic-w i would not work with anything less than a 512GB mini mag. you should prob have 2-4 of them.. 1 gets you going tho..I'm not totally sold on the 4.7, I have had zero problems with my 5" on DSMC2

As Epic-W might have the same datarate as Weapon-Mg (225 MB/s) I think it might be better to have multiple 120 GB (225 MB/s) SSD rather than one 512 GB (300 MB/s). I had a incident once where the 512 GB broke after a whole day of shooting with no time to backup....guess what (we had to reshoot everything!). My 2 cents :-)

Just saying. I go through cards pretty fast on S-W, and Weapon MG. I record prores along with my redcode. i can't imagine trying to shoot 8k + prores on a 120GB card (I have never had a mini mag "break" thankfully)

If we had the Scarlet-W package preordered are we able to go to Brain-Only Epic-W? I originally didn't mind getting the accessories in the bundle for the price, but I use Nikon mounts (was going to keep the Canon mount as an option), I already own two 512GB Mini Mags (don't really need the 120gb, I'd rather put the money toward another 512GB), I don't really need the case or AC adapter (if I'm really trimming the fat... haha). Basically if I'm going to spend the money to upgrade, I think I want to streamline my accessory purchases.

Anyone else looking to move from Scarlet-W package to Epic-W brain only? Or is RED only doing straight body swap (i.e. I add $10k to my $15k package, and they just drop an Epic-W into the case instead of a Scarlet-W)?

I would assume that you're not trading Scarlet-W "Package" pre-order price to an Epic-W "Brain Only" price. Consider that people that pre-order a Scarlet-W today are not pre-ordering the package, but the brain only and they too would qualify for the 10K upgrade.

There is no E-W package, so you'd need to add the accessories for the E-W and you'd let go of the packaged savings of that offer.

This is actually a good thing for many that have certain pieces already. I already have mini-mags, and the 120GB one seems pretty useless in an 8K environment. Others may prefer a different on-camera monitor.

The alternative (guessing) would be to allow the Scarlet-W package order to go through, and then upgrade the brain later.

Not usually unfortunately, that's why I never get it
