  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The RED ONE M-X...

My red one is busier than ever. I shot two commercials on it last week and the mx and ssd upgrades made it a new camera. It's been an uphill battle educating people on how to work with the footage but three years later they are finally getting it. The ones that didn't get it have closed their doors.
There have been times in the past that I've wanted a backup camera even though my red has never given me any problems at all.Now I have a primary camera until the epic comes and a b camera or backup body after that. Lots of life in the old girl yet.

My RED ONE MX/SSD and our RED ONE are going strong, very very busy, specially the MX - I am confident the MX will be in our service ten years from now, the non-MX goes stage 3 and becomes an Epic.

Life is very very good with RED ONE!

The RED ONE M-X was used to shoot "The Social Network", which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography in 2010. It was used on Pirates 4 which has grossed over $1B worldwide. It was used on "Contagion". It is being used on "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

The RED ONE M-X is current. It is historic. It is a camera that continues to have value. You can shoot "greatness" today on a RED ONE M-X.

Very very true... for those doing classic cinematography.

But I nearly killed myself lugging the weight of a RED ONE kit up Etna... EPIC/Scarlet can't come soon enough for me, purely on grounds of weight and size!

Just love my RED ONE. Never shooted with another digital format that made me feel no compromises from 35mm!

The trailer from "Crossing the Line" at 1K was what sold me: it feel like 35mm (not exactly, but different in a good way). And all the support and updates from RED is what really bought me in the community. I know I'm not a great writer, but an avid reader from this forums.

My next investment (once I get my stage 2 EPIC-X) is going to be the M-X upgrade (which I haven't been able to do, 'cause I been saving all the money to be able to pay for the EPIC package). My RED ONE is always gonna be an important part of my life... and there's something in it's design that feels just plain right! :D

I firmly believe in my RED One MX and expect it to keep working on shoots for some time yet. I look forward to testing my Epic and R1 side-by-side in order to learn how they can work side-by-side on the same set.

Since I retired from the motion picture industry in last spring, I am relaxing and enjoying rest of my life. My R1 is on a shelf and I occasionally pick up and shoot some home movies for myself. Now making movie become my hobby that make me much happier than counting money ( my job was Producer), and when the Epic-X arrives to my doorstep, I'll take it with me everywhere I go. I'll become the Epic-X man (old man :-))!!!
And purchasing the Redone was the one of the most important experience in my life.
Thank you made me happy forever.

+1 - Social Network, beautifully shot, and all those movies had cranes, trucks, and crews. For us solo operators, it's another story. Hauled Arri SR II up more mountains than I remember, but I was much younger then. (and all those films cans were a complete pain) The R1 makes beautiful images, but with batteries and EVF, is a load. Fine when I'm working near roads, but Epic can't come soon enough for my back. The new lighter, better EVF rocks!

Bravo! I'm always hearing how people don't want to work with this camera or that lens or don't take a software app seriously so go with the flow if you want to make money. We can change these attitudes and perceptions through persistence and quality results--and grow a new market at the same time. Very inspiring!

I am relieved and thankful that R1 MX is still getting some love from our Leader despite all of the Epic talk. Just shot a feature this summer with ours and it was really great. Did some color work last week and proved the workflow works and raw is the way to go. I teach Super 16mm film and the value and quality of film, but I am hoping that RED will be our advanced filmmaking curriculum for the future. We were lucky enough to get one R1MX, but I believe that Scarlet will greatly impact University instruction using the same RED raw workflows and provide the cost effectiveness necessary for multiple cameras at a college level. I anxiously await the Scarlet release based on a grant that will run out at the end of the year. I am not sure that I can push it back any more, but another R1 will be hard to pull off. My helmet is on and my fingers are crossed for a bright near future!
 
My Red MX 1976 is a bit over three years old now and has been used on dozens of shoots with nary a glitch. And I'm sure I could pound nails with it and go on the next shoot. It will stay a part of my kit along with my Epic M and the soon to arrive X. These are amazing machines from a uniquely talented and human company of heroes. Oh God, I'm sounding like a fanboy! Oh well... Thank you, Jim, Jarred and team.

Brook, that seems like just yesterday that you guys were posting stuff about that test shoot. A LOT has happened since then. But those memories of early RED One days will always be kind of cool. Very unique time.
