What if the side handle grip were removed and a different mounting bracket for the camera brain were used?
Yes Jeff, that was the first thing i thought, too.
Here is, how it would look:
As Jarred points out:
Balanced weight distribution is much more important ( IMHO ).
This is critical.
... However, just thinking of a few cool tricks that can be done if maintaining the optical axis is possible.
I totally agree with you - right on the spot. The kinetic energy in the moving image is AWESOME, when having the possibility to rotate around a spot in the image, with that spot fixed on the screen.
So for kick starting, it would be intriguing to do it with the "fixation in the image center" ...
But as Jarred points out:
This is manual, no motors.
Here we go. I was under the impression, that thing is moving (as in self powered).
Lets make no mistake, this is no trivial task.
The dynamics and tensions on the material in a moving rig, with heavy lenses and batteries are very, very strong.
Its one thing to move the stuff around in photoshop, its another to build a rig stable enough, that has the right powerful stepper motors and transmissions, to move that thing smooth and in controllable micro steps ... if one is so inclined to use it in motion ...
