This forum is loaded full of entrepreneurs and independent business people and all of us realize the undertaking that you have achieved. We also realize that the tools you are creating will allow all of us to achieve projects that would have been impossible with current industry equipment.

Your at the last stretch and we need you to cross the finish line. Hell... the country needs you to.

That's why God invented podcats. Grab a mic! :)

You could share your story with more people than any lecture hall could hold.

Gavin... I never know what to make of your posts. I like this one. :-)

Jim

Podcast is great... in Digital Cinema. With Magic Motion. Dark barn on bright day is optional.

Have read a breif history on Oakley, but would love to hear about the details others have left out straight from you someday:-)

Jim,

RED is the reason is finally believed in digital. Keep doin' what you doin'

I started Oakley with $300 after I paid the $151 house payment and the doctor and hospital to deliver our 1st baby. That was May 1975. We lived hand to mouth for several years. It was great.

I wonder if the Harvard brass is as dumb as portrayed in TSN?
Jim
Yeah, well generally you find people in teaching institutions tend to be there cause they couldn't make a decent living in the real world!
I thought you of all people would have realized that by now.
It's like people who write investment advice columns in newspapers. I mean if they really knew what they were fucking talking about they'd be out there cleaning up on the stock market wouldn't they. :emote_head_explode:
For God's sake don't go blundering into the old "Slip-Sliding-Away" routine at this point, I don't think we could stand it.
Try to avoid alcohol and old Paul Simon records:biggrinjester:

In the name of all actual RedOne owners, thanks Jim!
we can earn more money before buying anything you put on the market.
Vico.

ok yes Red is late, but is there an alternative that I want to buy in the meantime? Not for me, I'm keeping my ex1 and bought a 5dmkii to start saving lenses to use with my future red. Because of the openness of Red and updates here on the progress I am assuming it will take at least a year for my version of Red (s35) to arrive.

thanks guys for making something as amazing as this affordable to people that don't own a studio!

Tonight, my friend, Jim Jannard, friended me on Facebook. What a fucking moment. It happened because of TSN. A movie. Made by a RED camera and some amazingly talented people. Transparency? The way it should be. A company that evolves and progresses by the push and encouragement of not only its seniors but by the community that supports it. I would not have it any other way. I am so proud to work for this man. A real man with a dream. And every step of this journey is shared with the people who will eventually benefit from the genius that he has surrounded himself with. And the biggest secret is that he is the real genius, the man that has made this all real. What a great fucking night. Thank you, Jim. Thank you for changing the world. Thank you for making a real American camera company. Thank you for raising the bar. And thanks for letting everyone enjoy the ride together. Pitfalls? Fuck the pitfalls. RED Digital Cinema will change motion picture film making forever. It already has.
Couldn't have said it any better.

With all due respect to the others camera companies, RED is changing the hole film industry.

EPIC will replace film overnight. It's unbelievable.

We really put ourselves in a precarious position. (I guess that really means me.)

We decided to "talk out loud". We speak what we are thinking every day instead of doing it like everyone else. I made that decision based on what pissed me off with the other companies. Problem is... that gets us into trouble most of the time. We think it, we say it... has it's pitfalls.

I have assumed that "everything can and will change" would cover it. Truth is that someone remembers every word that was spoken. It is quite a heavy burden.

I won't change a thing. I just hope our customers are forgiving and take everything into consideration. Life evolves. So does RED. You guys just see it realtime. There is no precedent for this type of interaction. There is no filter, no strategy. We are just winging it. How about that...

All I can say is we are swinging for the fences every time at bat. We are just too dumb to know what not to do.

I have a camera here (Ace) that is everything I have ever dreamed of and more. It is currently shooting HDRx™. It shoots normal mode 5K at 120fps. I have graded ISO 50,000 images. It is the size of a Hasselblad, although a bit heavier. I could die now a happy man... almost. All we need to do is get this camera in the hands of our customers. Then I would be happy. Until something else comes up.

I really appreciate everyone's patience. I know we have used up every ounce of it.

Jim
Jim,

Can't wait to have an EPIC in my hands.
But please, don't change a thing. Talk out loud. This is why we love RED.

Take your time and get it done right.
Thank you and the hole RED team for making our dreams come true.

I am feeling quite insecure tonight. I started Oakley with $300. Then RED. And no one wants to hear how both happened. What's up with that? :-)

Oh, well... back to work.

Jim
Jim, I've sent an email to the University of Pheonix Online. You should be getting an invitation from them shortly to speak... online of course.

(But those other guys appear to have a "bad attitude" so even if they finally get it, I wouldn't speak at their heavily endowed ivy covered halls. They dispense learning from the top down. You are definitely an orderly chaotic doer and they hate chaos of any kind except when it's just theory.)

Jim, for what it's worth I've been following RED since the beginning and your technology has motivated me to create my own production company. I'll deal with the moire/aliasing/jello effect of the Canon for now, because in the end what matters is the emotional content. But I'm damn sure that HDRx™ and 3K will enable me to reach higher grounds, so I'll gladly save up and wait.

I heard Bruce Willis has already signed up to play Jim in Red The Movie...
It opens in theaters this Friday, and I think it's about ex CIA agents or something... an action flick (Duh, Bruce Willis). Am curious why it is called Red.

I remember the first Oakley product I bought ever, was a yellow pair of wing looking BMX grips. I bought it from Wildcat in Tokyo, Jim did you know Mr. Kozo Hiraki in person?
