  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi Jannard! I think I get what you want to say. But if I can say something, let me tell that golden middle path is a practical solution. You tried to be honest and opened (and that made Red One and Epic, etc so great. But you learn your lesson. I wish you the best!
 
I normally kind of a silent watcher but let me add my voice here to tell you guys that the kind of behavior you expresses here sums up just why people like you and your business model. Please carry on.
 
Jim your new slogan should be...

"All GOOD things come to those you WAIT."
then when the EPIC and SCARLET comes out...
"Here's a RED letter day in the history of cameras...."
 
I'm sure I'm not the only one who got a little worried when they started reading this thread. I was expecting Jim to say...

"The pitfalls... we've found that HDRx isn't feasible, and that 5K @ 120 fps makes the EPIC glow red hot. Sorry guys."

It was a relief to find that nothing of the sort has happened, and that Jim was simply getting some stuff of his chest to ease the minds of the RED community.
 
We couldn't be more happy with you in this world , developping what no one else would do... and with listening to the customers, when you normally wouldn't be obligated to do so, because you have prooved yourself many times.

You gave us a great time and shared a lot of knowledge with most of us, we learned a lot from eachother and I really hope this forum will still have a long life with you , Jarred, Graeme , and many more who have spent lots of there time over here....

I'm sure the epic will be unbelievable....

Well, all those institutions probably don't want to hear that what they're teaching isn't the only way to succeed in business. Besides it's probably hard to teach entrepreneurship in an academic setting.

I'm sure the students would be interested though!

The first thing I'll film with my RED Scarlet Fixed are my first Oakley glasses and perhaps some other things if I can find them...

Recognition where recognition matters... on the screen!

As for the pitfalls of an open dialogue with the consumer, I just assume the backlash and nit-picking over every word you write is on behalf of a very scared competition - trying to chop down the giant before he's released in to the wild (so to speak)

I think that it's great that you all have "spoken out loud". It's ironic that people are so critical of you, Red or a piece of equipment that has yet to be released. I learned something quite a long time ago, "Some clients are better off with your competitors", the same is for RED. Some people can't be pleased, they will search for problems and create them when they can't find them. They're never happy, are the most critical, and take up too much of your time. Learning to avoid them is a valuable skill usually learned over time.
 
Remember too, when someone misapplies your meaning, it can go the other way as well. Someone 'nit picking' might actually be trying to help and not trying to deter at all. I think that this thread and your integrity has brought that to the fore which is obviously a sign of courage and a good thing. I hope some future presidents read your business manual. True respect is not gained from putting a gun into someone's face, it is achieved by integrity, openness and the ability to remain composed during difficult times...

Jim, firing up REDuser.net and clicking on "Recon" is one of the best parts of my day. Because one of these days I know I'll see that giant RED eyeball labeled "Jannard" and somewhere in that post will be the words "now shipping."

Keep up the open dialog with your customers, fans, fanboys, AND detractors. It's the reason many of us are here.

Ummm... here's where I point out you have more money than any academic, a way hotter wife that is probably smarter than the dean of Harvard, your own fucking island, the deepest respect of thousands, a history of innovation and the gumption to resist making stupid moves brought on by the "idea fairy". And you have surrounded yourself with people that "do" - remember: those that can't do, teach. In short:
Quit Whinging - YOU WIN.

OH and if you MUST speak at an academic institution, why not AFI? Or if you want to talk business - why not try Oxford, Cambridge, or the Sorbonne? They have REAL history... and I'm sure they would be intrigued to hear from a captain of American industry. THEN Harvard, Yale, Wharton, Stanford will all call and beg for you out of jealousy. Just make sure you charge one dollar more than a former president for a speaking engagement.

You have already etched yourself into the pages of history. We are all fortunate to be able to experience all you have provided us, including your words on Reduser.net. Know that, I for one, look forward to reading your posts. There was a period when you stopped posting and Reduser got pretty boring. I don't care if your camera is taking long to come out. Keep the channel open.

Just keep working on the cameras, fine tuning to make them the best, add any and all features possible, keep making it better and better, if it costs more fine, it's all worth it....3K for 3K whiners I don't have time for that...go buy a 5D.....like a fine wine, when the camera is ready we will be to buy it....

The folks that are crying out loud most don't own a RED One...

Waiting patiently for a good thing, thank you for keeping us in the loop as much as you can....it's great to hear what's coming. NO other camera company does this...refreshing to hear the future....

I've been feeling very down recently, times are tough. But my prospects look good, even if it is only I that can see that. Sometimes I have my doubts though, they can get to me, but I believe doubts are a part of a healthy mind. Only fools have no doubts.

I'd like to hear your story Jim, but it is not finished yet. Your approach to business, marketing, product design and R&D is and will be revolutionary, and will be seen that way in the future.

Oakley's must have been the most copied product in the world, Jokleys could be bought on every street corner on the planet (not great for business), but they did not compare to your product.

I respect Steve Jobs. His business acumen, design aesthetic etc. but if he owned the RED company do you think he would allow people to use different manufacturers lens... never. His products, while beautifully designed lack flexible utility. Also I don't think you would ever treat Graeme like Job's treated Woz. (iGraeme)

Your model will dominate this market; your cameras will be the most copied cameras on the market. Films shot with RED will win many awards.

I don't own a Red camera; I hope to have the money to buy a Scarlett when it's out. I will buy Red because I believe in you, and your company.

Now get over this, get back on the pitch and kick some ass. GO TEAM RED.
