  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hehe. I'm looking forward to getting some work shot and do a bazillion other tests before that :) I pretty much made the ND tests I needed to make a decision on the Epic. Schneider Platinum IRNDs are the "thing". I'll be able to test more around the week of the 16th.

Yeah, understood :) If the Schneider Platinum IRNDs were not backordered I would order them right now. I'm thinking about getting the Pancro Hot Mirror IR+NDs instead. We'll see...

Are you planning on using your Scarlet to do HDRI vfx work instead of a Canon 5Dm2?

I'm using the Formatt HMNDs for the time being until the Schneider Platinum IRNDs become available next year.

I'm currently not planning on using the Scarlet for Spherical HDRI capture. It's cost and size would be much higher. The rigs I've designed already capture 360x180 at 7k in less than 20 seconds. 20k in less than 40 seconds. There are now 36 of those rigs out in the wild and our based on Canon cameras. Depending on the lighting conditions of the scene that can be over 40 stops of captured dynamic range. In terms of the processing on the back end as well I would basically have reprogram everything from scratch. Which also doesn't sound too fun :)

I will be using the Scarlet to shoot on live action feature films and capture visual effects elements. That's what I'm really looking forward to. I'll be serving as DP on two music videos early next year, DP on a wide theatrical release shooting in April 2012, and am in the talks for another much larger budget feature shooting late summer. Scarlet will also be coming with me to Coachella this year and I'll be doing something really fun in February. Hoping to pick up an Epic by the middle of the year if everything goes as planned. I'll also do some artsy nonsense in my free time as well. Gotta scratch that itch :)
