  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Internal Focus Motor Thread

Cool I expect some reduser reviews soon then.

yes we are starting to ship this week. I would like to call for Los Angeles orders first. We are very proud of this product and would like to offer personal customer suppport to the initial customers. It is not practical for out of town customers.
We will obviously support any unit sold anywhere in the world but for practical purposes and instant support Los Angeles area customers are most welcome!!!!

Any time now. I'm trying to find some time to quickly shoot something while I'm baby sitting the manufacturing process. Not for the faint hearted- that's for sure :)

Terrific news, Jacek. Please post the videos here as well as notice of when you will begin taking orders for non LA customers. I may have to wait a few months on finances due to my recent gimbal purchase. But I'm excited to see demos and hear feedback on how this product performs.:-)

I'm excited about internal focus build into lenses. Where can I learn more about what you are doing? Can I use my PL lenses, do I have to buy a lens and give it to you for building up, love to know more... thanks.

Would you consider giving a unit or two for fellow REDUSERS to try, test and post a video?

Will, this thread is about controlling lens motors via REDLink on Canon / Nikon lenses. REDlink allow to speak to the lens motors thru the camera mount and allows fine control of those precise internal motors with an app or directly using the THC.

For PL you still have to use external motors like RED's 3 axis system (soon to be controlled thru REDLink too, and if you have a Fuji cabrio, you won't need to add any motors)

Jacek is working on a little unit that connects at the back of the camera to receive radio signal from a hand controller FF.

Great news Jacek,

Is this all ready to go using your receiver at the back of the epic and the red mount? Or is this with the optitek mount?

looking forward to some more info (pricing, video, features, availability)

Phil.

Yes this is our receiver plugged into the camera and OptiTron2 controlling the receiver (and the lenses) wirelessly.
alternatively the OptiTron2 (or the original OptiTron for that matter) can be plugged directly into camera to control the focus and iris on the lenses. In this case the OptiTron(2) can be mounted like traditional FF on the iris rods -or anywhere else on the camera. The mounts on the camera are RED Canon and Nikon mounts.

Jacek - I will film your demonstration for free.

we can either use my dragon+canon mount as the subject of filming, and shoot it with my black magic pocket or a 5D, or we can use my dragon to shoot your dsmc+optitron.

I can meet you anywhere in the LA area tomorrow or Monday. Only thing I can't do is edit it ;)

We could do a one take wonder, and I can grade it for you and upload it if that helps you too.

I appreciate the offer Dan but there are some very specific performance aspects and features that I need to show. This is based on the feedback we've had from the two years of carrying this technology. I'll try to do it after the game today

I think you should let Dan help you....In my humble (and useless) opinion, you would end up with a better and more informative video. I am by all means not trying to insult you what so ever.... so please do not take it the wrong way but in the past your videos/marketing/pictures were not clear or descriptive enough.I am very excited about optitron 2 and my first AC is eagerly awaiting some info on it.

Actually that's why the videos were not that good- I let others do it. BTW I really wanted to shoot it today. Did not work out. Will have to wait until Monday.
In the mean time... ;)

I stand corrected. Thank you Jacek!!!!

The red link can and does work with an external knob. Reds own Tactical Hand Controller will focus Canon lenses through the redlink.
Unfortunately the T.H.C has been unavailable as a stand alone unit since it's announcement. You need to purchase the whole WMD focus system to get it.

So.... we wait
