  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Great Gatsby Trailer

Congrats to someone who makes amazing movies who's foot steps I one day hope to follow. :thumbsup:

And here I am at the set of T.G.G to the drive way seen around 1:37 in the trailer :) Fun times! :beer:

I think for us Ozy redusers we're just happy to have a director that doesn't focus on a red dog, beer guzzling bogan or farmer in a ute!

I can't believe so many talented people worked on this and this is how it looks. Thats not what New York in the 1920's looked like at all. I can speak with authority on this subject because I was there and let me tell you this is not it. You must be wondering about my age and let me put you at ease… I am a time traveler. While we are at it lets talk about some other hollywood lies. The beaches of Normandy on June 6th 1944, to the human eye, looked nothing like Spielberg depicted.

All anyone can say with good authority is:

"That web encoded trailer did not present me with an aesthetic that I cared for."

It's not my view but by all means.

And thank god for that because if we all had the same aesthetic then we wouldn't have filmmakers out there with unique voices like Mr. Luhrmann.

I for one will be seeing MIB3 in 3d really only because this trailer will be presented in 3d before. I am VERY curious to see how a visual drama will play out in 3d. I can tell already that some shots like when they are standing in the flowers have the potential to be very emotionally immersive.
 
I truly believe it's people like you that make a great camera even better. Keep pushing, Bruce..

3. If we're trying to make a true digital film replacement, it had damn well near be able to distinguish colors as well or better than film. It's not just about the K.

I know you're going to say "It's RAW - just correct it" - but the point is that the spectral filtering takes place BEFORE the light gets recorded as RAW, so the information has already been lost of muddled. Imagine if instead of a Bayer sensor of pure saturated R,G,B you have a filter that's Pink, Green, Pale Blue. It's really hard to extract the pure color out of that because of all of the crosstalk. And then the sensor is also sensitive to IR etc that we can't even see.

This is why I always ask for improved color rendition in Dragon. I ask for this from the perspective of a RED supporter.

Big Baz fan myself :)

I wouldn't want to hazard reading too deeply into a compressed internet trailer image wise - but personally I saw enough to convince me (not surprisingly) that it will provide some truly glamourous and utterly absorbing imagery and I'm expecting a real visual feast. Baz is incredibly talented but I think a huge nod for the aesthetic he is so famed for also must go to his partner Catherine Martin.

For me this trailer radiates a mood/ambience/mis en scene that creates a real sense of "event" like few and far between films mange to do for me these days. So I'm really looking forward to it.

One of the best trailers I have seen in quite awhile. Really looking forward to seeing the film now.

I'm sure it'll do wonders in 3d , period films need to have a lived in look. this is too clean , too vibrant and to digital sheen to it. its like a facimile of the period rather than feeling like anything is real.

+1 on that ... I hope Dragon will fix these issues.
 
It looks heavily stylized. Which is Baz's thing. Eye-Candy. Period pieces like this feel very fresh when done like this and it takes guts.

I will see it to provide more information to my own period piece which is being polished.

Some execs from the distribution side of a big Hollywood studio came by the other day for a 3D demo. Gatsby, hobbit and Prometheus were some of the trailers played along with a couple cgi trailers and one trailer from the aforementioned studio that was shot on Alexa....


The Gatsby trailer is mindblowing.
 
I can't believe anyone would use the word "real" when speaking of a Lurhman film. His movies always polarise opinion. He clearly doesn't give a tinkers cuss for any of it and does exactly what he wants. Love it or loath it, it's art.

I've loved some of his work and loathed others. Nonetheless, I'll be standing in line with my popcorn and 3D glasses for this one...
