  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Future of Follow Focus Now- Optitron by OptiTek

3 setups per hour, 24 setups per day, 6 days per week.
Pretty impressive pace. The OptiTron made it possible without huge crew or immense budget. Could'nt be done with PL lenses per clients claims.
Pictures coming...

Wireless is both essential and necessary feature Norbert.
Yes it's coming .. We should have a video in a couple of weeks.

Can you tell me what features it has for rack focusing between 2 or more set points and any other rack features?

If we buy one and we are not happy what options are there?

Looks great from what I have seen so far.

Mr. Optitek. Offtopic. If you have time, can you pass your eye over the post below in lens tests forum relating to Nikon AIS and AI lenses and fitment problems and offer qualified advice to the enquirer. You may have already dealt with the issue with your own flavour of the Red-Nikon F-mount, in which case the enquirer may have a ready-made solution avalable to him.

We have a very simple one button setup for custom in/out points.
Contact me off list and I'll discuss the return policy with you so you can rest assured.
We are confident that once you go OptiTron- you won't go back. No one has...:yesnod:

I'm glad that Nikon issue got resolved finally.
We are shipping OptiTron/ProLock-i units BTW!!!!!!

This system looks great. I know it was designed with production work in mind, but it might work great for wildlife, especially for long lens work where you want to keep your hands or off the barrel. And of course great for jib work once the wireless version comes out.
What is your ETA on the wireless?

jacek, is there any solution for mounting the optitron sender (handset) on to a 15/19mm rail? would be important than we can mount the handset to a place, where the follow focus normaly is taking place... maybe you add a arri-stype rosette or somewhat on the handset...

Have any shipped yet jacek. .?

Is there a pot to control the speed of the rack focus?

Is there a pot to control the speed of the rack focus?
I'm not sure what you mean- it will follow the knob turning. If you turn the knob slowly it will rack slowly...
You also can remap a limited focus range to full turn. One button to do that....
More detailed video focused on that is coming...

Nikon coming next. Same controller- just buy or upgrade the mount.

Will this work on my current Nikon mount from OptiTek?

Jacek,
how many watts does the controller needs? Does it accept 5-18V?
I was thinking of powering it with LP-E6 batteries...how many hours it would last with an LP-E6?
since I've seen you are powering with a USB battery which is 5V i think 7.2V are ok...
I have a bunch of the m for my 5D MK2 and I think they're a great powering solution,
much better than Sony L for low power devices nowadays...and they're really fast to charge.
What do you think?

What I am looking for is a way to set focus point A and B into memory and press a button to have it rack. The Pot would allow you to adjust the speed of the rack.

Does your unit allow you to set focus points and auto rack when you press a button or can you set the points and the unit needs the person to turn the knob but wont let focus past the set points?

Maybe you could describe how the rack focus works?

Ben your version of focus rack is done well by Red. If that's all you need....
We could certainly do that but I think there are features more useful than that. I've never seen it done on a shoot before.
As far as the Canon batteries OptiTron will work. However there are few drawbacks with that:
We use inexpensive batteries so the cost should not be an issue.
Our batteries will last more than a day- the Canon ones no more than couple of hours.
We also use the battery as a solid grip handle.
The LP-E6 would require a special expensive housing to work the same way.
And it would have to be different for every battery type.
You tell me if such a scenario is practical... Your battery collection aside....

Is this specefic to red? Could I use this mount on say an f3 or the f55 for example?
