  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Future of Follow Focus Now- Optitron by OptiTek

Is there an option to put limits on the near and far and the user turns the wheel to rack focus between 2 points?

Cool stuff Jacek!!! Liking my nikon prolock to work inside my Gates Housing. looking forward to the next cool device you come out with!

Hi, this looks like an incredible piece of kit and the answer to my canon glass. I'm buying a scarlet in the new year and using an FF on canon glass has been my only concern. What an amazing (and obvious!) piece of kit.
A few questions.
The 85mm LII is one of my favourite lenses but manual focusing is nearly impossible. Can you use the FF along the full range on this lens too? If so it would breath new life into it.
Are there any options for UK distribution as I can guarantee I'd get stung for duty on import.
What is the mount made out of in relation to Reds titanium option?
What are the options built into the controller for attaching to the camera or rigging? I like the idea of eliminating rods but would be good to mount it near the lens itself for when I'm doing solo operations.
Is the firmware going to be updateable for new canon lens releases?
What battery does it run on?
How heavy is it?

I honestly can't believe something like this has finally come out.

Many thanks.

The 85mm is one of our favorite lenses on the ProLock-i. The encoder resolution is fantastic and makes it move very smoothly.
We only sell directly at this time but have dealt with the UK customers in a very satisfactory manner. Email me at the address in my signature.
The flanges of the mounts and the locking mechanism are machined stainless steel.
We provided a simple Z-bracket with a rosette for rod attachment but are working on some quick release options for a very wide range of configurations.
Yes there is a USB port on the OptiTron for update purposes.

What I am looking for is a way to set focus point A and B into memory and press a button to have it rack. The Pot would allow you to adjust the speed of the rack.

Does your unit allow you to set focus points and auto rack when you press a button or can you set the points and the unit needs the person to turn the knob but wont let focus past the set points?

Maybe you could describe how the rack focus works?

Ben there is a "range" button that allows to set custom focus points.
Pressing it sets the two focus points and remaps the range between the two to a full turn on the OptiTron

Jacek,
how is the 85 1.8 focusing on the Optitron? the 85 1.2 has the extending barrel and weights a ton...the 85 1.8 is really good, internal focusing and light!

Is this specefic to red? Could I use this mount on say an f3 or the f55 for example?
Jake we have a version for F3/F5/F55
This is a self contained- stand alone system.
Email me for pics and info on the non Red cameras..

Would the same controller work for the RED mount and F55 mount?

OptiTron control..

OptiTron control..

Yes the OptiTron works with both ProLock-i versions. It will also drive the Nikon Mount when available and, eventually- PL lenses (via external motors):thumbup1:

Jacek. Trying to contact you. Any news on shipping these units ?

Yes we are shipping.
I'm out of town for Thanksgiving will give you your tracking when I'm back.
Thanks Robert!!!

VR / IS ?

VR / IS ?

Will the Nikon VR and the Canon IS work with the mounts?

The IS is supported now and the VR will be as well wit hthe Nikon ProLock-i adapter

Yes as soon as we button down Canon we are adding Nikon ProLock-i mount to the kit. Same OptiTron.

We have some pretty slick 3D pair tricks planned....
Any news on this? I am thinking it will make 3D rigs lighter and help match lenses.

We have some very slick 3D tricks- stuff impossible with PL lenses.
