  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Clutch

can't wait to put my EPIC-X (when it arrives ) on my CLUTCH....eheheheh

Has anyone tried The Clutch with a RED ONE, yet?

If so, what's the feeling of it?

I did. I bought the plate for the Red and try it. It is nice. But if you use it more than 1 hour, i think i will use the easyrig too.
The best for me is to be able to put the Red on the tripod and in few seconds, to go handeled

Thanks, Olivier. Nice tip about the Easyrig.

How does the balance feel? Is it too front heavy? Does it fall to the right?

I'm quite interested, 'cause I'd like to have one shoulder rig for both my RED ONE and my (future) EPIC-X.

Cheers!

Will the parts to build our own "clutch" system be up any time soon? I have almost everything i need but the shoulder pad and the accessory pads. I was hoping to just buy those and build up my already existing system.

you can see all the individual bits that make up the clutch in the description. Eventually you will be able to buy them all separately as well.

Thanks Jarred, that's great news. I previously saw all of those individual components listed, but not all of them (notably the shoulder pad and accessory pads - as Jacob pointed out) are available individually in the store yet. Fantastic to have confirmation that these will also be offered (hopefully soon)!

heh heh yeah, if you see little photos pop up when you are looking at the individual parts of a package, that usually means that those photos were taken for a reason :)

Am I the only one still ending up with black palms after using the clutch a while? I thought it would calm down after a while, but it hasn't. The rubber just keeps on giving in the pigment department... Any tips?

gloves? =]

Future Alternate Handgrips?

Future Alternate Handgrips?

Just an idea or two:

John brings up a good point - I hate black rubber transfer too. Instead of the rubber grips, options to consider (priced accordingly):

Remember the wood grips from the Aaton's? Something similar would be an exceptional accessory.
Perhaps there is a woodworker out there that is searching for their next zen project.

Or a plastic molded grip with a strap?
Could have programmable function buttons (start/stop the easiest choice)

Next idea - manufacture short expandable legs that would attach where the handgrips do. They should be able to pivot and lock securely. Perhaps the back can accommodate two more attached behind the back pad. Would turn the Clutch into a spider - able to act as a camera platform support on uneven terrain. I'm thinking of a hundred applications without any effort - time lapse setups to start. Climbing a mountain? Leave your tripod at the base.

Knowing who I'm talking to, these may be under consideration or already in the pipeline.
Just need to wait a bit longer...

Jarred, will the shoulder pad be sold separately, love the setup you showed in another thread.
When will the wedge be available in the store ?

thanks
Manuel

everything will be sold separately.. and next batch of wedges should go out again end of this week.

Has anyone used the clutch with an Epic and 18-85 rpz lens? I would also like to add a matte box and obvious other accessories. Am I putting too much weight on my shoulder? Is this going to be a bad setup?

How does it compare to the ET Mantis? Anyone tried both?

I've got the Mantis, a clutch bought off another RU and I just ordered the Gunner (after testing out someone else's). Last, I've got a Red Rock POJ I haven't touched since I bought into RED a few months ago.

Needless to say, the Clutch and the Gunner whip the pants off the other rigs. Most of the reasons have already been mentioned in this thread, but customizability, "feel", weight, and balance are the biggies. The value kicks in after a few long shoots. You'll consider those past spent bucks well served. I hedged on the Clutch until I had a few other accessories on the shelf, but going back, I would put it somewhere in the top-5 list of purchases. The fast second is the Gunner. I've got a particular style of personal shooting that the Gunner fits really well with. But then I've got a case of glass that requires the Clutch. If I had to pick one personally, I'd go with the Gunner. But if I was recommending either or, I'd stick with the Clutch.

Hope that helps!

*EDIT: Tell you what; I'll gladly sell you my Mantis, but only after you try out the Clutch, then decide for yourself. I don't think you'll want it after.
