  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Clutch or Gunner Rig?

I have the gunner, it's great but only ideal for smaller camera configs. If you're putting red primes or master primes on your rig, get the clutch.

I have the clutch, it's closer to the ET Mantis in functionality. The adjustable front and back pads make for very steady shots. If I know I'm going to be doing a good bit of shoulder shooting, the camera goes on the clutch. If it's a quick grab shot or two, it comes straight off the tripod and onto my shoulder with nothing but the side handle and quad battery module as the support.

That's cool Bob. I always felt the redvolt modules were kind of overkill for the size it adds vs an AB battery, but for your setup it really makes for a great rig! That's really the power of a modular system :)

Is there anything like the clutch out there but cheaper? My filming style is very 'Bourne Ultimatum' so need to do a lot of handheld and remain comfortable, but also have as much flexibility as possible.

Well there is this guy. Very similar AND cheaper.

It's a funny thing. I've shot within the same week about 5 hours on shoulder with and without a Clutch. And let me tell you. Just having that front support and back support pad alone is a massive world of difference.

I've going to have V-mount battery mounted on the back as well so weight wise it's going to be on the heavier side, so need something comfortable. anything you know of thats under 2k?

haha how's that cheaper? That is the clutch just battle tested and still $3250 :P

That is what you asked for! Something like the Clutch, only cheaper. There you go, a BT version that is $1,650.00 cheaper than if you bought it new. And I would hazard to say it probably looks brand new if my past experience with BT purchases are any indication. But, if you are more focused on price than performance, the ET Mantis might be what you want.

But Phil is right. Those supports with the clutch allow hands-free operation and stabilize you very, very well.

You can't imagine shooting with the Clutch until you have one. It's pretty amazing. I've sold my Mantis since I got the Clutch. Mantis was awesome, but the Clutch is Awesomer! I've tried a lot of shoulder rigs, and you get what you get for your money. The Clutch is a world class rig! For extensive shoulder shoots, I even use it with an shoulder pad from FilmTools and my EasyRig Vario 4. You can shoot for days without pain! :D

I think it's the best design for a HH rig I've found so far, I love mine. Clutch all the way!
