  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Auxillary Power on the PRO I/O Have Never been functional

even having to carry an additional module that adds size and weight just to get a power tap off the camera is discouraging. $700 Viewfactor Plate and and Anton Bauer batteries and power problem solved. Innovation is great...but when there is an industry standard that works well...why mess with it? I'd be so impressed if the next I/O module had a D-tap, but i won't hold my breath.

Would like to here any outcome as well since I am going to run the fuji cabrio motor from the pro io....I hope

Nick and Brent at RED have been very proactive, I can't complain about the customer service since they got involved. the situation as of now has not changed and I am unable to power a bartech or a tv logic monitor from the pro I/O

Hey Paul
So your IO went back to Red, was found to have no faults and was within spec then?
So where do you stand on your original issue

"the Aux Power, does not work, and has never worked. RED, after 7 months of emailing and pleading is still ignoring this.
Why sell something that doesn't work."

Sent it in. They said they fixed the issue and sent it back to me and I tried to use it ran tests then I had the same results as I posted in this blog previously.

Nick and Brent were very compliant.

The only reason for buying it for us was power out. I figured we put our trust in red buying into a whole lot of redvolts and redvolts XL's and then the pro I/O with all the needed cables for power and control and such.. So far the the fact is it has not worked with a single FF that we used. Which is a bummer and far from "PRO". Strapping a secondary power option to the camera when using FF's does not seem right to me. the I/O is quite a big bit of gear and with the battery quad behind it it seems very odd that it could not support standard equipment, or?

If there is a hardware issue I think red should consider doing a call back for these units. For one thing it makes me think twice before I put a down payment for the Meizler as if the power does not work on the pro I/O I have a hard time believing that even half of the cordless stuff will work with the meizler.

So please RED, confirm the issue and let us know what you will do about it. Or if you will not solve it then please let us know that, so I at least know that what we bought is garbage and I need to look for other options.

I would like to ask, in a positive way, what accessories the Red designers had in mind that we could use with the Pro I/O, as far as power draw. I got an over current fault on a wireless receiver pack on a recent shoot. Granted it was a 2 channel receiver and a mono return transmit pack but my list of items is getting longer still. I understand the listed power spec and it is entirely my ignorance as to the draw of the accessories I use, but I have really not found one piece of kit that can power up from any of the power option on the Pro I/O. So I'll ask ...What is it that I can power up?

Also could it be possible to make a cable that splits up the power from an acc. across all three power ports on the ProI/O thereby distributing the load? Sounds funky but I thought I would ask.

Thanks

Taylor

If you are having issues with your unit where it is not performing to published specs (in PRO I/O ops guide), you would contact RED tech support. No different than any other RED product.

As far as I can tell, the answer is, "No one knows!"

"Auxiliary Power Output: 1.5 Amp continuous load at 11.5-17VDC"

The PRO Io now seems to have 1.5A listed as its power output in the RED Store.. presume its had a hardware bump for the better?

Given my reliance on the HDMI output for the Paralinx Arrow, a need for an extra EVF port and the +1 Module eating an HDMI port to do it, looks like the Pro IO could be my solution know it seems the DC out issue is somewhat solved?

Do the Pro I/O modules that are out there already have 1.5A power output or is there a new model Pro I/O?

Ive never seen the Amperage quoted before so possibly a bump, and if this thread is anything to go by then its an improvement as it seems many have not been able to power even the simplest accesory that im sure 1.5A would have been able to power easily.

That said im very often wrong and welcome any updates to this thread
