Hi everyone,

So, I have a question... with that new update, you're able to turn the sharpness slider from 0 to 100. You can clearly see the difference in camera but why doesn't it apply to the final image in post? We already have the focus tool so if you have the sharpness slider then what's the point? Also, I wanted to know something else too.. When I come back to the edit, I always go in davinci and turn the OLPF on high and then the sharpness is finally there but is there a way to turn the OLPF or sharpness on in camera and apply that to the media recorded or do I still have to turn that on in Davinci. They say you can do it in RCX but I've never seen it. there is a "Shaprnen" slider that goes up to 3 so i assumed that it was the same as OLPF settings in Davinci and PPCC but it doesn't do anything and I assume it's for something much finer than the overall image. In any case, all I want to do is to be able to shoot with a sharpness or OLPF setting turned on in camera so when I deliver to clients, it looks sharp and clean out of the box... Help?

Red Cameras are "raw" (compressed REDCODE RAW to be precise).

Baking in sharpening would go wildly against that concept.

However, there are many ways to sharpen your footage in post. In REDCINE-X Pro you can use the Unsharp Mask in the Look:Effects. Most NLEs and compositing packages have sharpening abilities as well.

What the in camera sharpening slider is for is sharpening the outgoing video signal for monitoring or external recorder use. This is rather useful as you are carving out a look that will be seen or recorded and often due to the nature of "raw" it's often nice to sharpen things up a bit.

I really love this feature. In fact, I'd say it is a must have feature for the new 7" touch. It is too soft otherwise, and peaking is way too strong to use all the time, I like my monitor to look good.

What new monitor "sharpness" setting are you guys using for the Bomb EVF? I have "Focus Check" mapped to A on my side handle, but it'd be nice if something was always on when using the other exposure tools.

I think "OLPF Compensation" is known as "Detail" in RCXp and has 0 to 2 settings. I actually find "Sharpen" in RCXp to do some weird things with the highlights when set to strong (probably more to do with the AIS Nikkor coatings than anything)...
