  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TERADEK Cube/Bundle - Group Buy!

Hi Jodie

Not ignoring on this, still looking into quantifying accuracy of RP188 out. But I can confirm we will be adding RP188 out shortly. Oh, and we are adding .mov / timecode track support to the proxy files as well. This will be super handy, as I'm sure you all can imagine :-)

No way!!!!!!!!! :-)

It depends. The decoder has way better latency. Important to some people. The iPad is so small and convenient, but comes with a big latency. I think the decoder is a better product, so if you don't have the iPad yet, buy a decoder.

Cheers

Isn't there a RTP solution for the iPad in the works? Once that is implemented what is the latency going to be like on the iPad?

Steve

Has anyone tested the proxy files through a conform to make sure that the timecode is accurate? The thought of using the H264 files for an offline edit would be a great low budget solution, and in the Off Hollywood video they are clearly advertising that as a feature -- proper offline files and not just director's dailies. But my understanding is that the timecode available through the HD-SDI out of the Red isn't frame accurate. Hence why the QTake requires you to run Genlock if you want frame accurate timecode. Does the 59.94 - 23.98 / 50 - 25 fps pulldown occur in the teradek encoder?

I 2nd this question! So close to pulling the trigger on a cube, but I think it only makes sense if the recorded proxy files are useable as an offline that can be conformed using the R3Ds.

My work is typically small enough that I don't need to be feeding clients with ipad dailies, but if I can attract them with that sort of "candy," but provide the real service of handing off h264 offline files that they can start editing, I'm ready to click the "buy" button.

Please let us know (and please extend the sale til Monday so all this confirmation can take place before we commit)!

Best,
Clint

Indeed this is very important. Has anyone tested this and can confirm it is totally frame accurate!

Indeed -- can someone confirm either way please.

so no ability to use the h.264 as offline, syncing back later to r3d.

I've got that correctly no?

aha. Thanks Sander.

Also considering an encoder, possibly decoder too. Extension and reaching the 50 orders 20% discount would likely sway me.

We simply don't know yet. iOS4.2 made some changes, which makes it more feasible, but still hard to overcome Apple's hurdles. We're not giving up on a < 1/2 sec solution, but we're not all that confident either. We have many people working on it though. Stand by.

What Dual Channel wireless routers are Teradek testing/recommending?

No-one outside our office has this yet - still in R&D. Give us a few more weeks.

I think you're right. The frames are delayed, plus the timebase is different. The question I have is what is accurate enough to be useful (not perfect). 1 frame accuracy ? 3 frame ? 5 ? I'm thinking just for a rough cut / grading. We can come fairly close, but this will take some time still.

No, currently we are streaming the full 59.94 we receive. Looking into dropping duplicate frames. Will be a while though.

We're just getting started with this new workflow, so we are very happy to have all these inputs to make the product more valuable and thus more successful. With many of these questions, the answer is given enough time and resources, anything is possible. However, it will be best if we focus on the most important aspects first - it would be great if you guys give us a pecking order of what is most valuable to your workflow.

This is obviously our next goal. But bear with us, it will be a while, and come in steps. We'll have something in there soon, but the accuracy will take a while, and actually may need some work from Red as well. The good news, as many can attest by now, the free firmware upgrades come frequently !
