  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TERADEK Cube/Bundle - Group Buy!

I've updated the main post with a tally of what's been ordered so far. If it's incorrect please PM me to adjust. Will continue to tally the thread as more info comes in.

Just so I am clear, the proxy recording software is free if you get in on this group buy and not $900?

Can two Teradeks be used at the same time? Two camera shoot? Recording to the same computer.

Do I need the receiver? What is the real benefit of the receiver?

Thanks,
Dusty

The receiver is to decode to an SDI monitor, the decoder does not receive the HANC metadata from the RED so wouldn't be super useful to record from it. Makes a great wireless monitor setup tho.
The recording software is free for the group buy and is otherwise currently at $300 before the end of the year.
I don't see why you couldn't record 2 separate streams but will confirm that shortly.

Jason

I am going to purchase the 120 decoder unit. But I am waiting till the 15th to make the order.

Proxy recording is $900. If you buy Cubes before Jan 1st, you can purchase proxy recording as an upgrade for $300 at a later date (even in 2011).

Proxy recording is FREE for any Cube bought in this group buy!

So you save the price of the software, plus the discount achieved by the group buy.

I have a hard time figuring out what the final price is for the bundle with this group buy and exactly what models of the Cube it is? Let say 25 units - what's the price?

Okay I'm in for one encoder.

Can someone enlighten me about what else I need? In the store there is 'Mpeg Transport Stream' software and a 'UDP Multicast License'. Do I need that? What about cables, power?

I didn't see the cable we'd use to plug this into a RED camera, but I did see the cable on Filmtools website... Am I missing it somewhere on Teradek's site?

To plug it in? You mean for power? You just need a Lemo to RED power cable available in teradeks store.

Sweet. That confirms at least one combo for me then, will place it today. Cheers Jason.

The SDI Unit is for our REDs. In terms of the HDMI/SDI combo, would there be any lag? Ie it better to use this method for 5D/7D monitoring or go HDMI-HDMI plus SDI Converter?

I asked Nicol about the UDP Multicast since the store description just links to the wiki entry on Multicast. And I believe the MPeg stream is in the same vein.

In simple terms, UDP Multi. is the software used to multiply or strengthen the signal sent from the encoder in order to allow for multiple machines to receive the video on-the-fly as opposed to multiple machines seeing the proxy file on the shared network folder, the moment the clip is finished recording on camera. As I understand it, this "multicasting" is possible after adding an additional wifi access point(of which you can find workable solutions for $100US or something) as well as the software, and becomes a bit more complicated with configuration. From what I was told, the majority of users in the film industry are going to be good with only proxy recording, and usually the multicast dealio are for tv broadcasts and live event streaming type productions.

Actually, adding a wifi extender into the mix can also be a good thing for both further encryption of the footage coming off the encoder and extending the range of the cube by the sounds of it.

I hope we can double the number of units sold, so there is more discount and more REDusers that will be able to contribute to the use of this pretty bad@ss little box. :costumed-smiley-047

Soooooo. This is cheeky, but Im gonna need some cables to power the Box. Will they get discounted at the end like the Cubes themselves?

Also, the discount code applies a $0.01 discount to the sale. Is that about right til the 16th?
