  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tell Apple you want R3D native support for FCPX!!!

I already submitted mine, but really guys.....I'm thinking it's time to move on. I'm an FCP editor of ten years and I think this ship has sailed. I see more and more people adopting Premiere Pro and Avid lately. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with Smoke? I've been trying to learn it more in my (non-existent) free-time.

Hey Fred, thanks for submitting. As for your question, of course we could move on. I just don't want to.
I started out on analog linear systems, went to silicon graphics engines, and worked on a whole bunch of NLE software further down the road. I have no problem with switching once I feel it is necessary, but for now I'd like to see it work, because I like the concept of FCP X and how it is set up. Of course there's not everything in it I'd like to see, but NO system I ever used felt "complete"! ;) To me FCP X clearly is a complete new piece of software which just - like everything else - has to evolve. I don't want to dismiss it before I've seen it grow up.

I hope we can quit this discussion about pros/cons and switching in this thread. I don't want to sound rude, but I think we should rather discuss that whole situation in a different thread.
I don't want this one to expand into a discussion but rather try to keep it "clean" for post count sake! ;)

thx and cheers
patrick

switched from fcp to premiere and haven't looked back. If you do a lot of after effects work it's a no brainer to switch thanks to dynamic link. That aside, I think the thing to push for from apple most is a new Mac Pro. There could soon be no need for final cut if apple doesn't update their top of the line hardware.

There are plently of threads that enter this debate...This thread is not really designed to start shitting on people for chosing to use Apple editing software....

I hardly call that shitting, my friend. My main point was that without a much needed upgrade to their high end hardware and the rumors that there will be no upgrade the days might be numbered for their software in professional environments.

Considering the expandability that thunderbolt is now affording us, I fail to see why a MacPro would even be the indispensable weapon it was until now. Imacs and Macbook Pro's can take it's place...btw, the macbook Air is the new Macbook Pro... Thunderbolt is a godsend.

Depends on the editing environment one wants to build and need for faster than x4 lanes for PCI cards.

FCPX "American Girls" Music video. Shot Epic, Edited ENTIRELY in fcpX. - Chroma Key, Color correction, etc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8I9yijl6Ag

This video was edited ENTIRELY in FCPX (4k and 2k Media) in quarter of the time considering no need to XML to AE, NO RENDERING!! The biggest plus was with Chroma Keying. Each of the 3 dancers were shot separately, i created ONE compound , and applied the chroma key to Compound clip. Amazing!!! i could then move/ expand that one clip around the timeline as opposed to moving 3 separate clips.

The industry has truly underestimated the power of fcpx. As soon as r3d support comes, it will be unstoppable.

NO RENDER! Plugins Used:
mFlare plugin
Tonalizer plugin
FXFactory Plugin

Almost 5,000 views but only about 100 posts. I just hope some of the people who can't or don't want to post here still did send out that feedback report...

Unfortunately there is much more than R3D support necessary to make iMovieX a professional grade NLE.

I think Apple knows we need more than presets for color grading without us asking for it (among a ton of other basic needs). Shall we make a list of basic needs and wait another 3 years to see what Apple has to offer, or move on to other products which are staying quite up to date with our technology?

With that much being said, I'm very excited about CS6 and it's new interface...

Excited about Photoshop's dark grey UI huh? Color correction is one of the least important tools in FCP in my opinion. It is an editing tool. As far as other products staying up to date with your technology, that is the simplest part...
