  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ted leaving RED?

Ted has in some small (or big) part helped all of us here get where we are, whether we realise it or not.

It has always felt odd that someone who is the spokesperson for such a big, important company would be so down to earth and open, and I think that is what has helped shape the ethos of this community and make it what it is.

Thankyou for your enthusiasm and dedication, Ted. Best of luck in whatever you take on next.

I hope to see you at reducation next month, so we can teach the sh*t out of that class.

I can't say that I really knew Ted. But the times I have been in his presence, he's always come across as an incredibly down to earth and genuine person. The first time when he stopped by Steve Gibby's LA RED Test in '07 or several NAB's since then, I've always thought that. In Vegas, OMG, the dude is an animal! Those who haven't seen him in action at the AJA party, you have no idea... But he's always been there as the front man to the RED community. Always the smiling face at NAB, making the announcements. Always around when I had my daughter at Camp RED a year ago... He is just an all around great guy with such a positive attitude.

All that traveling and promoting and constant reducation and everything else he did couldn't go on forever. I wholeheartedly wish him the best for whatever he is off to do next!
 
I was just about to go to bed after quite the long day of responding to so many emails from so many people with such nice and heartfelt things to say, and then I thought, I'll take a quick look at RedUser before I hit the hay... I did not realize this outpouring of so many nice things was going on today here as well as in my email inbox, until just now.

It has been such an honor to be associated with so many wonderful people, with similar creative and professional desires and goals as myself, and to have built so many genuine and long lasting relationships with all of you, in so many places around the world.

The forum communication world has never been the most comfortable environment for me, and while I totally respect it's value and benefit to so many in such a powerful way, I simply prefer one on one interaction and in person group meetings, so this was my last order of business today, and I'm very glad I checked the forum before calling it a day... it was just a really nice way to end one of the longest and most memorable days in recent memory. (and I have a lot of amazing memories and stories of the last 7 plus years to reflect on)

My moving on from RED should not be taken in a negative light. it's a good step for me personally, and I genuinely believe a good step for RED as a company. People move on, change things up, take new risks, learn new things. thats what makes life so interesting and compelling.

All the best on your forward journey, Ted. I'm just glad to hear you're fine, healthy and in good spirit. I was afraid something like illness was the cause of you leaving at the point where things are getting extremely exciting. Can't wait to see where you go from here. Sky's the limit, right?

That is a great idea! I wish he would do one about all the amazing memories of Red. Or do some amazing content for the movie about Red history!

I'll always remember coming to camp RED at RSH to shoot a promo for Adobe. We showed up and when you came in the room we were staged in and saw our rig you said, "I've got a Angie Rough 15-40mm in the trunk of my car, why don't you use that". We shot with it the entire day and it was very generous of you. You could see the excitement in your eyes watching the kids interact with the toys in the camp you were instrumental in bringing to life and I remember thinking, here is a guy giving back to the youth and his community and loving every minute of it.
So, thanks Ted, for all your time, knowledge, generosity and kindness over the years. You've made a difference in many people's lives and that's the highest compliment I can think of.
 
Moving to the USA, my first time working on our booth at NAB'06 was the time when RED introduced their concept.

Following up on the "web", Ted was always the one presenting new developments and sharing his passion.
His passion certainly increased my idea of RED over the years. I'm glad he did what he did.
Thank you Ted, and my best wishes for the next chapter.

If you follow up on anything education/RED, as an educator myself, I will be curious about it -- let us know. :o)
 
I believe that RED's success is the result of all the right minds coming together at just the right time. One of those key minds was Ted Schilowitz. It has been Ted's devotion to seeing this through by traveling the globe to educate, inform, and connect with the current and future customers that has helped propel RED into the forefront of digital cinema. Jim, Jarred, Graeme, Ted, and countless others turned a dream into reality and it is inspiring to say the least.

It amazes me that it's already been 7 years, but I can understand the need for a fresh start for everyone involved. Ted's work ethic is unbelievable and yet despite the crazy schedule, he always managed to respond to emails or to phone calls. Even when he was half way around the world somewhere (think we talked by phone while he was on a train in some foreign country one time) he would respond. He was a great ambassador for the RED brand.

I am extremely curious to see what he does next, but I am hoping he gets an opportunity to spend time with family and friends and relax for a little while. At the end of the day, there really is nothing more important than that. Being healthy and surrounded by family equals a great life.

Here's a toast to Ted to say thank you for what you have done, for making it possible for all of us filmmakers to have an excellent imaging tool that helps us express our artistic vision, and for dedicating yourself to a job that was demanding but hopefully rewarding.

Best of luck in the future Ted!
